I’ve done a far few moves over the past decade or so. There actually could have been one more if I decided that I wanted to get a full university experience, so I decided against it. Anyway, I’ll go through all of the steps. 2009 – I went to uni in Derby, but I stayed living at my parents’ home in Nottingham. So no move at that point. However, it was while I was going through my studies in the rival East Midlands town that I first met my now-wife Hollie who is from London.

After meeting her in 2009, it was less than a year before I moved to London to live at her parents’ place in Peckham. It was a pokey little flat, but we knew that it wouldn’t be long before we would be out with our own place. Late in 2012 was when that happened. We headed over to a new build flat in Sydenham and really loved being out in Lewisham, in spite of some of the problems that came with the place.

Moving onto 2016 and so much had happened by that point. In fact, some of the stresses of living in Sydenham had got a bit too much and it came to a head once we found out that my then-girlfriend was pregnant with our first child. We had to get out. So we did – further out to Beckenham in Bromley. (Which is still technically London, if you ask certain people).

In 2017, Hollie’s parents must have done the shortest distance move known to man. They literally moved one road away from one place in Peckham to another and enlisted myself and their daughter (at this point my fiancée to get the job done, alongside three local men and a van. That was a fun one and was nearly a disaster when it came to the washing machine, but we managed to get through it in the end.

Finally in 2018 I made the move back to my hometown of Nottingham and went from a tiny two-bedroom property to a four bedroom place with garage, utility and office space. It was quite a change. As you can see, I’ve had my fair share of moves in the capital. Through these experiences I’ve come to know what good man and van hire in London actually looks like.

I’ve had to do my fair share of experimenting to realise what exactly I need from a man and van service, and what signs I should look out for to ensure that they can really get the job done. I think the most important thing is to find people that have the experience and can tell you how long it should take to pack, move, disassemble and reassemble the many things that you want to take with you.

Thankfully we haven’t had any run ins with people that were straight up bad at what they were supposed to do, but we’ve definitely seen a difference between each team in terms of what people were able to do efficiently or not and how they made certain processes flow in order to carry out all of the work in a timely fashion. When you’re moving it is stressful. It’s always the case and it’s probably impossible to avoid it, but you can definitely prevent it from being any worse by choosing to use moving people that really know what they are doing and will take care when they are handling your goods.
