If you starting planning financially for your retirement in time, then you have a lot of options when the time finally comes. Which makes you then realize that you can do pretty much what you want. Where and how to live your life is now set to be determined.

If you haven't put thought into what your financial situation might look like when you finally hit retirement age, it's essential that you check out a ROTH IRA calculator and work this out.  It will give you a clearer picture of what you should expect to be working with once you don't have any other income. The last thing you want is to discover that you're a more treacherous situation than you expected to be in.

There are lots of different lifestyles but they can all be boiled down to whether you want to live your retirement in the city or instead in the country. How you want to live will ultimately be determined by where you are setting up your retirement home. For example, are you looking for new 55 and over homes or would you be happy with a pre-existing community to be a part of?

Both have their pros and cons so it’s up to you to decide which way will best suit you. We will go into the various things to keep in mind in this article.

Country living

If you are an active person that loves the outdoors then you surely are leaning towards a life in the country. There is easy access to nature when you have a place outside the city. Even your own yard is more of a possibility so you can have things like a garden or a pool.

It’s been well studied that being active when you retire is the key to staying healthy and living a long and happy life. Just having a project like a flower garden is enough to keep you busy and the fresh air and sun will do a world of good.

However, the drawback to living in the country is that you are tied to your car more. Usually, you have to drive 15 to 20 minutes to get to the supermarket. Buying clothes or other necessities can become a chore. Even meeting friends for a cup of coffee becomes a project. As a result, you can end up feeling a bit isolated.

There is an in-between, however. There are retirement communities like these new homes South Jordan Utah which give you easy access to the outdoors since they are outside the city, yet all the conveniences that you need since it is built almost like a village.

These types of communities are ideal so you never feel isolated and can age without worrying about having to change your lifestyle.

City life

There’s just something about the city that keeps you feeling excited and enthralled. There is always a buzz and it is easy to find the action when you live close to downtown. Nights out at the theater, dinner, and drinks with friends or a walk in the park during the summer is a great way to pass the time in your retirement.

There is also the convenience. You can often walk to take care of your daily needs. Going to get groceries is not as much of a chore as you have options close to home. Going to the bank or post office usually involves a short walk or subway ride. And meeting up with friends can happen more spontaneously as you are usually close by each other.

Of course, the downside is that you are not close to nature and it can be loud and dirty in a city. Not to mention more expensive in a lot of ways.
