It’s all too easy these days to find yourself over the healthy recommended weight that you should be. With shops and adverts on our television screens advertising delicious looking food that’s packed with calories, it’s hard to resist running to get yourself some of that tasty goodness. One good thing is that the world is now more fitness conscious than ever, and there are bound to be people close to you that could support you through a lifestyle change to get yourself back down to a healthy weight. This article is going to show you how you can fight your way back to a healthy weight.
First and foremost, you should check out a BMI calculator and write down your beginning weight, height, waist, leg and upper arm circumference, and also take pictures of yourself at the start of your journey. If you have a picture of yourself when you were at a weight you’d like to be at again, pin it around your home to remind yourself of what you’re working for. Alternatively, you could buy some clothing to aim to fit into and keep it hung in your bedroom for extra motivation.

Water

It’s no secret that the majority of the world’s population doesn’t drink enough water each day. The recommended amount is 2 liters, or 8 glasses of water which seems like a tremendous amount, but if you carry a water bottle on you at all times, you’d be surprised at how much of it you’d drink without even thinking about it. There are loads of tips on how you can drink more water each day, so why not set yourself the challenge and allow your body to gain the hydration that it needs alongside the ability to flush out any toxins that enter your body. You will soon begin to notice the improvement in your skin, hair and nails.

Exercise

Exercise is another trait that many people neglect in their lives. It’s understandable that you don’t want to get all sweaty and smelly, but wouldn’t you rather that than being unfit and overweight? A good idea is to sign yourself up to a class like martial art, where you can get yourself fit while you’re having fun. Also doing this will allow you to learn a new skill and meet some new people. There are so many different forms of exercise, so find one that you love and bring your fitness levels back to where they should be.

Food

As briefly mentioned earlier, it’s easy to succumb to the adverts on the TV and the smell of the fast food restaurants as you pass them. However, if you’re serious about losing this weight then you’re going to have to find a way to fight it past all of that and back to your home where you can prepare a meal for yourself that will give you some sort of nutritional value.

A good technique to take on when you’re trying to lose weight, is to bulk cook your food and prepare meals ready for you to warm up and eat when you find yourself hungry. This way, you will be less likely to reach for something naughty from the freezer to eat because it’s quicker and easier to make. There are so many different foods that you could prepare for yourself, and if you make time at the beginning of each week to bulk cook some food, then you won’t have to worry for the remainder of the week.

Portions

Portion sizes are something that many people struggle with because they are used to guzzling down huge unhealthy meals. While the food you’re cooking for yourself may be ten times healthier, if the portion size is too big you won’t be doing yourself many favors. Make sure you know how many calories you need to consume each day to lose weight, and then plan your meal sizes around that.

Another little known fact about portion sizes is that if you overload your plate, your mind will be automatically set on finishing it. If you reduce your portion sizes, once you’ve cleared the plate you will realise you don’t actually need any more food.

Listen to your body

One of the biggest mistakes that people make when they’re trying to lose weight and change their lifestyle, is to not listen to what they body wants. Just because it’s lunchtime, it shouldn’t mean that you should eat. If you don’t feel hungry then why overload yourself with food because society dictates that you should be eating? Obviously it can be difficult for people that can’t eat food at work, but when you’re outside of work try to listen to whether your body is telling you it’s hungry or not.

Also, before eating make sure you drink a glass of water because thirst mimics the feelings of hunger. The majority of the time you will find that you needed a drink and not food. If you discover you are hungry, only eat until the feeling of hunger disappears even if you haven’t finished your food. It’s better to eat little and often because it’s easier for your body to work off. You could always come back to your unfinished food later when you feel hungry again.

The final say

As you can see, there is a lot of information to take on board when it comes to losing weight. It’s also something that’s much easier said than done, so make sure you’re in the right frame of mind before taking on a challenge like this, otherwise you could land yourself in a worse position than you’re already in. Remember to listen to your body and make wise decisions and you’ll be well on your way to achieving your goal weight!
