These days there are so many gym memberships, weight loss supplements, and exercise machines available on the market that many of us believe that to get fit you need a lot of money. This is not true. Getting into shape is an activity that can suit any budget; all it really costs you is energy and commitment. Here are a few ways you can get the best results, without blowing your budget on fitness equipment.
Yoga and pilates
One of the best things about yoga and pilates is that you don’t need a lot of fancy gym equipment to get started. You don’t even need a mat if you have a good bath towel lying around. The few bits of equipment you might need – a big ball, balance boards, and blocks – are considerably less expensive than a gym membership. If you’re not sure you can practice without a teacher to guide you, don’t worry. There are plenty on yoga channels on YouTube so you can workout at a time and experience level that suits you.
HIIT
The best fitness regime features both cardio and endurance. When you join a High Intensity Interval Training class you combine 30 seconds of weights and 30 seconds of cardio in three minute increments for a 30 minute workout. It’s intense, but it can fit into even the busiest schedules, targets all your muscles, and has been shown to zap more belly fat than steady-paced moderate workouts. You can either join a class at the gym, or find a few DVDs to help you workout at home. Once you have a few exercises memorised you can just get creative and time yourself.
Dancing
Whether you buy a dance workout DVD, look them up on YouTube, or just blast the music on your radio, dancing is a fun and free exercise. Dancing is a full body workout that’s good for your heart, makes you stronger, and aids with balance and coordination. A 30 minute workout can burn as many calories as jogging. But unlike running on a treadmill, dancing is also a creative outlet; you can make up your own moves, learn established steps, and choose your own music. Also, dancing is a social exercise. Whether you go to a club with some friends, or go to a class and meet new people, you’re guaranteed to have a good time with an intense dance session.
Trampoline
With just ten minutes a day on a trampoline, you could boost weight loss, define muscle tone, and improve your overall health. A ten minute workout on a trampoline is the equivalent of running on a treadmill for thirty minutes. It firms the legs, thighs, abdomen, arms and hips, increases agility, and improves sense of balance. Most importantly, it lowers the risk of injury, as the flexible surface reduces the impact of landing. Finally, it doesn’t have to cost the earth; a mini-trampoline fits comfortably in your house and can cost anything from $30 to $1000 depending on the size
