Saving money doesn’t always have to be about the big sacrifices. Although there may be times when a dramatic cutback is called for, such as if you’re unfortunate enough to be made redundant, often saving money can be quite effective if you make a series of small reductions to all your regular outgoings. Using your negotiating skills and finding ways to save on some costs can really add up over time, and all without having to make big adjustments to your way of life.
Forget Loyalty
Quite often we stay with one supplier out of a misguided sense of loyalty, because we’ve ‘always’ been with them or simply because we get lazy about making the switch. But it very rarely does us any favour. Shopping around is important because companies generally reserve their most attractive deals for new customers. And these days it needn’t be too much hard work, as there are price comparison sites for most things to take a lot of the legwork out of researching the best deal. And use a cashback site as well!
Review Your Insurance Cover
Insurance is one of those things that it’s not good to cut corners on, but reviewing the cover you need and the deal you secure is a great way to make a monthly saving on your premium cost. Checking things like the amount of payable excess on your car insurance is an easy move – if you’re prepared to pay a little more in the event of an accident, you can often reduce your monthly costs by a fair amount. Inexperienced drivers can sometimes save by sharing a policy with an older driver, or by agreeing to a telematics insurance policy. Play around with the premiums to see what saving you could achieve – find out more at Call Wiser.
Turn It Down
Creating new habits with your power usage can really add up. Putting appliances on a digital timer plug can ensure that things don't get left on when not in use, and if you simply change the temperature setting on your washing machine down to 30 degrees you can save a lot of money over time. You could also consider switching to smart thermostats to monitor and control energy expenditure even further. Other smart home systems also mean you can control things like lighting and appliances remotely so that they are only on when they need to be.
Do The Sums On Debt
If you have debt to manage, make sure that you aren't wasting money on interest where you could be using it to repay what you owe. Achieve this by looking for a credit card transfer to an account with a lower APR, or even taking out a bank loan with a lower rate of interest to pay off several high interest cards if you can't manage to pay the balance each month. Every point you can manage to shave off the interest means more cash towards settling the balance, and if you're clever about it you could save thousands in the long run.
