So you’re thinking about taking the plunge and starting your own business? You're in for an amazing (and sometimes chaotic) ride. Before you get too far ahead of yourself, there are a few key decisions you'll need to make that will lay the foundation for your business's success. In this blog post, we’ll run through the five most important decisions you'll need to make before starting your own business.
1. Choose the Right Business Structure
One of the first (and most important) decisions you'll need to make when starting a business is choosing the right business structure. Do you want to be a self-employed freelancer or a limited company? It’s important to decide this first so you know how to register your business and what you’ll need to launch it. You can then figure out what else you need to launch your business from whether you want to be an in person business to how you’ll accept credit card payments. This decision goes on to impact everything else. But when you’ve decided, you can then create a plan.
2. Write a Detailed Business Plan
A well-written business plan can give you a roadmap to follow as your business grows and changes over time, help you secure funding from investors, and provide valuable insights into every aspect of your business (from marketing and sales to finance and operations). If you decide to write a business plan, be sure to include information on your target market, your competition, your unique selling proposition, your marketing and sales strategy, your financial projections, and your long-term goals for the business. As you go through your plan, you will be able to see if you will require additional help to start up your business. This could be in the form of a small business loan, outsourcing admin support, and utilizing marketing help such as buying Instagram followers to aid with your social media presence. Social media is high up on the list for reaching out to the right people, so focusing on that is essential. All you need to do is click “Add to cart” and you will get assistance with organic growth so that you can keep your business going.
3. Get the Proper Licenses and Permits
Depending on the type of business you're running, you may need to obtain a general business license as well as specific licenses or permits related to your industry (e.g., a food service license if you're running a restaurant). Do some research ahead of time so that you know exactly which licenses and permits are required in order for your businesses to operate legally in your area.
4. Find the Perfect Location
If you're planning on opening a brick-and-mortar storefront, be sure to consider things like foot traffic patterns, parking availability, public transportation access, visibility from the street, and more when choosing a location for your new shop or office space. If you're launching an online store instead (or in addition), be sure that your website is optimised for search engine ranking so that potential customers can easily find it when they're searching online for products or services like yours!
5. Hire a Great Team
Last but not least on our list of important decisions is hiring a great team of employees! After all, even if you have the best product or service in the world, it won't matter if no one knows about it or if no one wants to buy it because they had a bad experience with customer service—so take your time when hiring employees and be sure that they share your vision for the company and are passionate about providing excellent service!
