Many people have a misconception that weight loss has to be expensive. They believe that you need to have an expensive gym membership, they think that it’s important to always buy organic and healthy foods, and they generally just listen to whatever the news or media tells them regarding diets. This is usually not the best approach for weight loss and it can actually introduce some bad habits for you and your children.
If you want to make weight loss more affordable, then it’s a good idea to cut out the media and start listening to science and trusted sources. Let’s face it; the media is all about advertising trendy diets just so that they get more views and likes on social media, so let’s dive into the world of real weight loss.
Weight Loss Means Portion Control
Did you know that you could technically lose weight just by cutting down on your portions? While it might not be the best approach, if you’re able to cut down the portions that you and your children eat then you can easily start losing weight. This will help you save money, it will limit your calorie intake and it’s probably the easiest way to begin shedding weight.
Of course, this isn’t the prettiest way to lose weight and seeing less on your plate usually isn’t very motivational. Instead, we can look at proper portion control to help you cut down on your eating. One of the best ways to control your portions is to cut down on unhealthy and junk foods. For instance, if you’re giving your kids a large portion of ice cream or dessert after each dinner, then consider cutting down on the dessert and instead, shifting those calories to more protein and vegetables in their main dinner. You could also get rid of unhealthy snacks like sweets and swap them for sweet pieces of fruit instead.
Overeating and poor portion control can quickly spiral out of control and cost you more than you think. If you find that you have a lot of leftovers after each meal, then there’s a good chance you are overfeeding yourself and your children. If you can control your portions and cut them down, then you’ll find that you can spend less on your food budget and more
At the end of the day, the best diet for you is the one that helps you feel full, is easy to stomach and gives you the nutrition you need. Many people overlook what it means to control their portions because it does require a bit of planning ahead, but if you’re willing to do a little research into the nutrients that you and your kids are consuming and from what foods, then it can get a whole lot easier.
Encourage Family Activities
Another component to weight loss is your activity. You can control your portions and cut down on food but still have trouble losing weight if you’re not actively using your body. If you live a relatively sedentary lifestyle and your kids don’t get out much, then you need to fix this as soon as possible. You don’t need to indulge in expensive activities just to lose weight either. You don’t need to go to the gym and you don’t need to go to the nearest leisure centre. Simply going for walks more often, playing in your garden or doing activities around the house such as cleaning can contribute to weight loss.
If you find that your kids sit at home most of the day and don’t really get out, then try and encourage them to be a little more active throughout the day. Even if they like to indulge in things like video games, there are game consoles such as the Nintendo Switch that have games which involve using the motion controllers and moving your body around. It might be a lot cheaper than a membership to your local leisure centre.
So to conclude, weight loss is all about controlling your portions and encouraging family activities. The two go hand-in-hand, so if you’re having trouble with either the activity part or portion control part, then help is always available on the internet. As you can see, weight loss doesn’t need to be expensive. In fact, it’s arguable that actually caring about your weight is a lot cheaper than indulging in junk food and unhealthy snacks. Hopefully, this information and these tips have given you some idea on how you can better control your diet for a healthier lifestyle with your children.
