July 2017 Update: Pact App is no more. Carry on reading, if you're still interested though. Sweatcoin is a solid alternative

Break It Down for Us

Fancy getting paid to exercise? If you’re active anyway, it just makes to make the Pact App (formerly known as Gym Pact) a part of your life.

I’m a big fan of being rewarded for things I already do for free. I’m sure you can relate too. Here’s something I’ve used for a few years now, and it’s a steady little earner for me.

How Does Pact App Work?

Well how many times do you exercise each week? Be honest, because the less you do, the easier it will be. You input the frequency of workouts per week, and set a pact to stick to that each week. If you do, boom – money straight in your PayPal.

So how does it detect workouts? Put your phone in your pocket, sock, or in a strap of some sort while you exercise. The phone will feel the movements and reward you for it. Sprint, jog or walk, and the results will be the same. Easy.

Alternatively, if you go to the gym, stick your Location settings on and the app will detect it. As long as you do either of these two methods for 30 minutes, you’ve officially done a workout.

As well as exercise, you can commit to eating more fruit and vegetables. To do this, simply upload an image of a serving of greens (a quick pic of a banana will do) and the community will verify it, allowing you to count it towards your weekly pact.

What’s in It for You?

I’m assuming you’re here for the money, so let’s start with that first. Yes, you can absolutely earn money for telling this app that you’re going to exercise a particular amount of times per week. I’m also assuming that no one else is going to pay you to do that, so that’s what’s in it for you.

For those who need a reason to get active each week, this here app will motivate you to do just that. Results may vary, obvs.

What’s in It for Them?

There’s a big catch, to be fair. If you don’t stick to the pact, they’ll extract money straight from your PayPal. The only positive with this is that you get to determine how much they can take. $5 is the minimum, and you can go as high as you want.

If money will incentivise you to exercise, this is perfect. If the threat of losing money for not sticking to a exercise schedule will get you in gear, you’ve found just the thing you need.

This system makes the money flow in Pact App. It’s a small price to pay for the rewards you can earn. More likely than not, you won’t even need to worry about it.

What’s My Experience with Pact App?

When I mentioned that it was a steady little earner before, I should have emphasised the ‘little’ bit. You’re talking about cashing out $10 once every three months, if you exercise four times a week. (I swear it used to be loads more).

As organised as I am, I’ll often forget about the app. Luckily, you can set reminders to tell you to sort your life out, before they strong-arm $5 from your PayPal. There’s only been one occasion where I was hit with the charge, and it soon made me fix up.

A nice feature of the app is that you can schedule in breaks, so you don’t have to worry about times like Christmas, holidays and other times when you’re unlikely to stick to your regular exercise routine (or you might not have any wi-fi).

In terms of the food side, that’s something that came a little later in the Pact App journey and I never got with it. I can see how that will earn you a little extra out of the app, but it’s also going to requite a little extra effort too. It’s only a tiny amount though, so I should really just get with it and make another pact.

There’s a couple other reward-based exercise apps on the scene now. If you’ve got Sweatcoin, or anything along those lines, you should slot this one into your routine. There’s cash sitting there. Not much, but considering how little you need to put in, there’s no reason not to.
