There are an awful lot of things I said I would do once I went full-time as an online business owner. Loads. I'm all about diversifying income streams, of course. And so many of those plans have gone nowhere. One of the things that really hurts me is that I haven’t got any ebooks on the market yet. It’s really something I should have ticked off a while ago, but always found a reason to do something else entirely.

1. I’ve Had Titles for Years

I’ve got the foundation of fiction, guides, music commentary and reference books sat in my Dropbox, and some of them have been on hard drives since before then (we must be going back to 2011). I’ve been writing them down, mapping out chapters and all sorts, yet have never really sat down to get any of that done. Well it’s all changing now.

I know I’m late to the ebook wave, but I know there’s a lot of in-demand content missing which I can fill the gap for. As long as there’s a need and I’ve got the plans, I’m going to follow through.

2. I Need to Improve My Writing

Something terrible happened when I was 18; someone I didn’t know said that I was a great writer. It was not true and it was the reason why I didn’t actively try to improve at all. I avoided serious editors at all costs and just assumed I could get by with my skills up to that point.

Writing these ebooks will get me out of my comfort zone to write all kinds of different styles. A lot of what I do is functional and suits my needs (which is why I don’t really stray from basic conversational stuff on this and my other blog).

3. I Want to Embrace Procrastination

Procrastination is great for all of us. We all need a break. There are plenty of better things I could be doing with my time which will make me a lot more money in the short term, but I’m deciding to throw out a few short ebooks on Kindle instead.

There’s nothing better than a hobby that you can monetise. I’m actually going to enjoy all the things I plan to write about, so I’m excited to get on with it.

4. I Need to Finish More Things

Momentum is the wickedest. Top three productivity drivers. I can’t tell you how many things I’ve started and just left because something else has come along. Some of these plans were meant to be ‘the one’ that would make me definitively decide to sell off/completely outsource all of my other businesses, but they haven’t happened.

Writing all the ebooks that I said I would will get me motivated to get more things done in general. I’ve already got hundreds of ebook cover templates, masses of titles, and the next step is to put it all together with a few words. Easy.

5. I Need More Creative Inspiration

One of my ecommerce brands, which was doing very well, just felt like a lot of effort to promote. Coming up with new things to post on social became stressful to the point I just stopped. I feel like because I’ve been channelling creative energy other ideas, it’s made it a lot more difficult to find the energy for things like that too.

I feel like writing more – particular about different things – will unlock the blocks I’ve had for a little while.

6. It Forces Me to Improve My Email Marketing

I’ve been very stop-and-start with a lot of my email marketing endeavours and inconsistency is never helpful. Email marketing is the most effective way to promote the majority of the ebooks I’m planning. While some will require a fresh new brand, a lot of them can be marketed through communities I’ve built up around different niches over the years.

7. I’ve Got Audiobook Aspirations

One of the biggest reasons I need to get cracking with these ebooks is because I have plans to do quite a few audiobooks, concentrating on a couple of niches I’m about to cater to in my upcoming ebook empire. And I think I’m going to record the vocals for most of them. I’ve got recording equipment all set up in the office now, so it’s just a case of making the content for it.

Audio is definitely the way to go with books now, just because of the way people like to consume content. It means that it’s a lot more resource-intensive, but the most important things is that I will deliver content which is the most convenient to the consumer.
