If you’re writing large amounts of copy there’s nothing worse than a sticky keyboard or one which is slow to respond. It makes the whole process much less efficient and fast. Having to re-type words or correct them is a waste of valuable time. Mechanical keyboard switches are a way to make your life much easier. If you’re working from home for long hours, you need to make sure that you’re comfortable. This sounds obvious, but when you’re home alone standards can slip. It’s pretty much a requirement at most offices that staffers screens need to be level with their eyes. This means you don’t have to crane your neck up or down to see it. This is far from a trivial issue, without the correct accessories at home, you could be doing long-term damage to your neck. Some writers complain of phantom pains, others of numb wrists. Make sure you have a cushioned mouse mat, an adjustable laptop stand, and a keyboard that can be raised up on legs. These will all help you to sit and work in the right position.

A Desk

Finally, and of crucial importance, you have to have a desk to work from home. It doesn’t matter too much where you set yourself up, but having a desk is vital. To be a successful remote worker you have to take yourself and your job seriously. Working from a desk, with somewhere to keep any notes you have to make, is key. Just because you can work from home it doesn’t mean working from your bed or the sofa is the right option. If you want to be taken seriously then give yourself a proper office set up customized to suit you.
