Mattresses are the in-ting. You must be aware by now. Yes, the things you spend a third of your life on are in the limelight this year. About time, isn’t it.

A manufacturer somewhere must have come up with a fresh formula for making the mattresses. Cheap, clean, contrast on the side bit. Now a gang of brands have sprung up (or have become more prominent), and are trying to take our money.

It might just be a London thing, because the adverts on the Underground have been unavoidable. It’s got to the point where I’ve had to say something, because this really isn’t territory I intend on staying in.

Apparently, it is absolutely essential that you bought your mattress from a brand with the following criteria:

  • Memory foam
  • Layered
  • 100 night trial
  • Contrasting trim/stripes
  • Label on the side
  • Beautiful (usually parallax-scrolling) website
  • Limited high street presence
  • Comes in box

How does it feel, knowing your mattress is no longer fashionable?

If you sell mattresses and you want to sell more, consider the points above. imo, I think the contrast trim does it (even though no one will see it, once the sheets are on).

Once I came across two brands, I knew something was going on. Another entered my radar weeks later, then I saw an article about it, and discovering the last triggered this article. How can so many brands pop up with exactly the same proposition?

By the looks of it, last year America couldn’t get enough of these new wave mattresses. This year we’re all the way involved. We’ve got no choice in the matter either. They’re making all other mattress makers look lame out here, despite the fact we can actually go and try regular ones in-store without problem (which is surely what everyone wants to do, before they buy).

Since we’re here now, let’s run through the unique qualities of each:

Strung mattresses are out now, and these airy one are in. This is what the cool kids are into. I reckon in the next two years, most people will know someone with one of the aforementioned branded mattresses in their home

Most people will only know those people with one of those mattresses, because they’ve branded these mattresses to be conversation-starters, so no one’s going to be able to buy one without putting it on the Gram (or wherever else people post photos these days).

PopSugar went into depth on all of them, if you’re actually interested in giving them a go.

Disclaimer: I have a super king size bed, and the mattress is amazing. If any of the previously mentioned brands have a mattress for me, I’d love to give them a try, but I’m happy right now.
