Are you worried that you don’t have enough time to learn something important? Maybe you’re studying for a test, trying to get the gist of a presentation into your head, or maybe you’re trying to learn lines! Whatever you’re doing, the 12 hacks we have listed below can help you to learn so much faster. There’s no need to worry about things sticking in your head when you use the advice below.

Take a look and see what you should do:

  1. Don’t Study For Huge Chunks Of Time

Setting aside huge chunks of time to study could be a big mistake. The truth is, nobody can really focus that intensely for such a long period of time. If you want to get the most out of your study sessions, split it into smaller chunks and give yourself regular breaks. This will keep you refreshed and ready to learn, whereas sitting for too long could slow you down and lead to procrastination.

  1. Find A Tutor Or Teacher That Resonates With You

The best way to learn is from somebody you actually like. Finding a tutor or teacher that understands the way you learn can make such a difference to your results. Places like Bradley University offer a variety of degrees and ways to learn that can suit different students. Do your due diligence beforehand so you know you’re going to be learning in the best possible environment.

  1. Sleep On It

Taking a nap when you feel fed up can actually help the information you’ve been looking at to stick to your subconscious. This is why many workplaces have actually introduced ‘nap pods’ – they know how beneficial it can be for employees to take naps in the middle of the working day. It sounds counter productive, but it’s anything but!

  1. Make Your Notes Attractive

Handwriting notes has been proven to work better than typing out notes, but go one step further and do what you can to make your notes attractive. You’re probably not going to want to look at them for very long if you have hard to read handwriting and a boring lay out. Use stickers, different colored pens, and highlighters to make your notes more varied and interesting. This simple trick can make them so much better to look at and help certain bits of information to stick out in your head.

  1. Listen To Classical Music

Classical music can provide some great background noise and ambiance, helping you to soak up the information in front of you. It doesn’t necessarily need to be classical music – music without words is fine. However, for certain people, even music may be too distracting. Make sure you pay attention to how focused you feel when listening to it.

  1. Work Out Regularly

Exercise can improve learning and memory, so make sure you work out regularly. If you have a particularly bad case of brain fog, going for a walk can help. Step away from your notes for a while and get outside!

A study found that memory and cognitive processing improved after a single 15 minute exercise session, so you could even try some stretching or yoga. Set a timer for 15 minutes, and see how much better you feel afterwards. This is why many people who are trying to learn, whether at school, college, or even work, decide to exercise in the morning – benefits can be enjoyed throughout the day!

  1. Meditate

Meditation is amazing for so many physical and mental reasons. You may even decide to follow a more spiritual path when you get into the habit of meditating. Meditating and learning go great together because a meditation practice can help things like impulse control, attention span, and focus. When in the habit of meditating, you will have more control over your thoughts and should find you can easily bring yourself back to what you’re doing. You should also find that you retain information much better when you strengthen the meditation muscle!

  1. Get Plenty Of Sleep

Getting 8 hours of sleep per night has been linked to better brain function and faster reaction times. You may not need 8 hours, as the ideal amount can vary depending on activity levels, job, and other factors. Pay close attention to when you feel most productive. Some people only need 7 hours, but you should avoid getting less than 6.

  1. Stay Hydrated

A drop in hydration levels can reduce concentration. Staying hydrated can improve reaction times, responsiveness and overall mental processing. If you want to make sure you’re primed to learn, drink a pint of plain filtered water and keep a large bottle next to you. Invest in a bottle you can take with you wherever you go!

  1. Remember Your ‘Why’

Reminding yourself of your motivation to do what you’re doing is key if you want to keep your motivation levels high. Why is this information useful to you? What are you going to do with it? Don’t forget why you’re doing what you’re doing.

  1. Test Yourself

Testing yourself forces you to recall the information you’re trying to learn and can give you a good idea of whether it is sinking into your brain. Ask a friend or family member to help you or simply create a test for yourself. You could even pretend you’re teaching somebody else, which can help the information to stick with you further!

  1. Change Your Mindset

Changing your mindset isn't the easiest of tasks, but it will make the biggest difference to how well you learn. The things you actually deep down believe you are capable of will have a huge impact on the things you actually end up achieving. If you always tell yourself that you’re not a fast learner, or that you’re not intelligent, you will live up to this story. Know that that is all it is, a story. Nobody understands how powerful mindset really is until they unlock its potential and see for themselves. Tell yourself a different story and work to change your limiting beliefs
