Running a business is hard work; you will probably understand this if you're currently engaged in something part or full-time. Your to-do list will probably seem insurmountable at times, and to make a success of your business, you are probably tempted to give it your everything in an effort to make a profit and bring home the cash.
But here's the thing. While there will be days when you are very busy in your business, you do need to take care. There could be times when you become ‘too busy,' and that could have consequences for you.
There are times when you need to unbusy yourself from your business, and these are the reasons why.
#1: You can put your health at risk
Business burnout is a real thing, and you can read more about it in the linked article. The longer you spend at work, the more tired you can become, and this can have consequences for both your physical and mental health. You can also be faced with a lack of sleep, both because of your busy work ethic and because of the symptoms related to burnout. This, of course, will also have consequences for your health. So, listen up. While your business is important to you, you have to make your health a priority. After all, the next point can also become a consequence if you don't.
#2: Your business will suffer
If you do fall ill because of your busyness, you will be forced away from your business for a while. Now, if you have people working for you, then fine. They can take over while you rest. However, if you're a solopreneur, you might find yourself in financial difficulty, especially if you are reliant on the income stream. Your business will also suffer because of your busyness when you're at work. The tireder you become throughout the day, the less productive you will be, and that could reflect on the quality of the work you put in.
#3: You have a life outside of business hours
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, right? It makes Jill a dull girl too, and the same applies to you, regardless of your name! So, find ways to be productive in the day, as you should then have less need to work outside of your normal hours. You will then be able to spend more time with your hobbies. You will have more time to spend with your friends and family. And you will have more time to rest, without the risk of those bothersome burnout symptoms creeping up on you.
Be less busy
Finally, consider how you might be less busy in the day. You might want to outsource some of your business tasks, for example, or you could hire somebody onto your team to shoulder some of your burdens. You could spend less time behind your desk too, especially when work hours are over. A live answer company can take care of your calls, so you won't even need to have your work phone turned on. And cut down your to-do list. If something isn't a priority, let it roll over to another day, as you will then have more time to yourself, instead of having to spend every hour possible working on your business.
So, think about your business and your life. For the sake of your business, your health, and your enjoyment of life, do what you can to unbusy yourself in your working day.
