Sustainable energy sources are our future. There’s no other way of looking at it. Over the past couple of centuries, we’ve turned to the most practical energy sources due to its practicality and effectiveness, but we have seen what an impact it can have on other resources and the environment. In 2019 it seemed as though the spotlight was on our environmental impact more than ever, and it could mean that change is on its way.

In spite of the evidence of the benefits, there have still been those resistant to change. For example, Douglas Healy has had been critical at the pace at which some energy networks have been implemented, and at how effective they are at their fundamental requirement: powering the world.

As of right now, there are a number of ways we can all make changes which make better use of our current resources, reducing waste and putting on pressure on governments to invest on sustainable infrastructure for the future. These are things you can do:

1. Recycle

This is pretty fundamental these days, but we still need to make an effort to encourage people to actually do it – and do it properly. We’re able to recycle a lot of the things that we throw into waste. The more that we retrieve, the less products and materials we will need to make from scratch (requiring even more resource).

2. Use Public Transport

Walk more. Use a bicycle to get around. If those are too slow for you, or not even an option, it’s a must that you take public transport a bit more often. Consider how much you really need a car, especially if you live in a city. The less cars there are on the road, the less need there will be for carbon-emitting energy-generating process to take place.

3. Make Your Own Energy

If it’s a possibility in your case, install solar panels. Not only does it mean that you’re going to make your own energy, it means that you will be able to reduce your energy bills. There’s a benefit at both ends of the scale, so it’s a win-win. It’s a great investment in your future, and everyone else’s too.

4. Switch Things Off

You would be surprised by the amount of wasteful energy we all use in our homes. When we’re not using electricals, we have to switch them off. If we don’t, energy is being produced for no purpose. It keeps the energy demand high when it doesn’t need to be. If everyone was to stop the waste usage in their own homes, it would dramatically reduce the amount of energy demand across the world and reduce emissions in the process.

5. Eat Less Meat

The resources we required to rear livestock is huge, and it only goes up as people eat more in their daily diet. There are so many other options beyond meat, and if you were to cut meat out for a handful of your meals each week, it will make a difference.
