Everyone knows they should save. Not everyone does. Sometimes it is because, without a goal, many people don’t really see the point. Perhaps it is time to set some goals, something firm that is going to make a difference in your life, or the lives of others somewhere down the line.

Debt

We all know that you need to pay your debt down over time and off as soon as you can. But sometimes it can feel like an uphill battle. It might be tempting to just hide from your debts, but you should always keep in touch with any companies that you owe money to, and let them know about your circumstances. So, if you have debts, this is the first place that your money should be going.

Medical

We never know what is going to happen, so saving for medical emergencies – even if you have insurance – is to your benefit. Sometimes the treatment you need isn’t covered by your insurance, and you will be on the hook for a few thousand dollars and more. If you don’t have insurance, then saving money for medical emergencies is essential.

You may never need it, but if you do, you will be happy to have something to fall back on. Even a few hundred can help alleviate the burden here.

Unemployment

There have been more people laid-off and companies going into liquidation than ever before. If you have children, a mortgage or even just smaller monthly payouts, you ideally don’t want to have nothing if unemployment happens. If you never need to access this fund, then that is great. But, much like the medical emergencies, you will be happy you have it should you find yourself without a job and in the scrum that is the job hunting market.

Old Age

It happens to us all. We all get old, and the two things you will undoubtedly need to have some money available for are your retirement and funeral care. Many people don’t put anything into a pension pot, and in fact, they find themselves at a ripe age without having much money. Make sure that you have researched the availability of pension plans with your current company, or if you are self-employed, then make sure you have something set up. You deserve to live out your old age without financial worries.

College

If you have children, the chances are you want to make sure that they can go to college if they wish to. And, while they will probably still need to get a part-time job, and some other sources of funding to complete this part of their education, if you have money saved for them – they will be much better off. It doesn't matter how much you contribute to the fund, what matters is that you try. It might be that you can only cover the cost of books and a few hot meals – but both of those are better than nothing.

Even a few dollars a month being split into different saving pots can make a big difference when you need it.
