While there are a lot of benefits to being self-employed, there are also a lot of downsides too. For those that have found themselves in that position, the main obstacle they’re going to come up against is their ability to convince certain institutions that they’re able to consistently bring more money in. It’s for that reason that many people that run their own small companies or work as freelancers or contractors feel like it’s going to be a struggle to secure certain things – especially from banks.
As a self employed person, is it more beneficial to get a loan or have access to a credit card?
Loans
Many believe that self employed loans are harder to secure than they actually are. If you’re able to prove that you’re able to consistently bring cash in, and have been able to do so for some time. An Associates Home Loan could set you on the way towards getting yourself and your business in the right direction.
Loans allow you secure a large injection of cash in one go. This money may be needed for investments and essentials to get your business moving in the right direction. Of course – you will have to pay interest when you pay back the loan, but at least you get the money in one go, and have a longer period to pay it back. It may be months or years, depending on how much you borrowed.
Credit Cards
Credit cards give you access to funds which need to be paid back in a short period of time – usually a month. Many credit cards come with perks such as cashback or discounts on certain purchases. These things can definitely come in handy when you’re trying to limit your expenditure in every way you can.
The short terms aspect of credit cards means that, if you’re unable to pay within the time frame you agreed to, you’re going to end up having to pay additional charges. Obviously no one plans to be in this position, but if your cashflow isn’t nearly as great as you expect it to be, it’s a possibility that you can face over time.
What Should You Pick?
Only you will know the full extent of your financial situation. Based on all of those factors, it may be more suitable that you choose to get a loan, or you choose to get a credit card. In some situations, it may even make more sense that you get both of them. Perhaps a loan is more helpful at the beginning, when you’re just about to make the leap into self employment, and the credit cards are for once you’ve been able to establish full, consistent cashflow.
Weigh up the options carefully and take the advice of an expert to get the best answer about which is best for the situation that you’re currently in. You may have friends in a similar position, but it’s advised that you consult real specialists that can consider all of the options and give you a solution that really fits your current state of play.
