Playing sports is one of the best ways to get fit. Instead of pumping iron at the gym or running for miles and miles each day, sports is a combination of fun, socialising and exercise that will help you get fit and stay fit. Meet up with your friends on a weekly basis to play some sports, and you’ll find yourself getting more fit, competitive and having a great time together. But out of all the sports you could play, here are just a couple of great ideas that you can try with your friends.
Football
Remember the days when we used to set down our jumpers and bags at the park to use as goalposts? Those days are over now because finding a place to play football is relatively easy. It’s a fantastic social sport if you have a group of friends and you can meet a lot of people while playing. There’s a lot of cardio involved and you also need to be nimble on your feet to control the ball. If you want to build up your friendships, then try playing in a team against other groups as well.
Disc Golf
This sounds funny, but it’s a fantastic low-cost sport that makes use of all those frisbees that you’ve been storing in your garage. Get a cool disc golf bag, a basket, and then find an open field to start playing some disc golf. It’s a great low-impact sport that will help you get fit and exercise even if your body is a little weak or if you’re recovering from an injury. It’s also a great family sport because everyone can join in and play. Unlike regular golf, you won’t be walking around huge courses and you can play it in your backyard if you have space.
Softball
Baseball is a serious sport that’s played by many people across the world. If you want something a little more casual, then why not try softball? Make use of one of those baseball jerseys you have in the wardrobe. It comes with all the excitement and workout that you'd get playing baseball, and if you aren’t too concerned about the rules and exact measurements, you can play softball on a baseball pitch or by using a few bags and shirts as markings. It’s a great sport for medium sized groups but it does require two teams to play.
Bowling
Bowling is a classic party sport that is usually played in alleys that come with lots of bright lights, upbeat music and even bars. However, it’s a serious sport played by many around the world and there’s also an element of fitness to it that people don’t see on the surface. It takes some muscle work and finesse to be able to bowl properly. Thanks to the various sizes and weights of the balls, it’s perfect for anyone to try and it’s a great social sport to spend time with friends and get a light workout at the same time.
Basketball
All you need is a hoop and a ball to start playing casual basketball. You don’t need teams, you don’t need rules and you don’t need much organisation to start playing around with friends. There’s a lot of running around, hand-eye coordination and even jumping that will contribute to a great workout while having fun with your friends.
