Whether you’re working for yourself or your employee has allowed you to make the shift to working from home, it can be the ideal way to introduce more of a work/life balance to your week – and that can only be a good thing! For that reason alone it’s important to do what you can to make working from home work for you – and here are some tips to help!
Remember the Pros
Although there is no denying that adapting to work from home can be tricky, it’s important to remember the pros that come with working from home. Personally, I love being able to play some background music while I work – and being in charge of which tunes are blasting out throughout my work day! Not only that, but being home means I can do some tasks throughout the day when Iget a break at work – laundry, prepping dinner, sorting out the kids toys etc. These might not seem like the most existing tasks but it does mean that these tasks can be ticked off the list; rather than me coming home from a day at the office and having a long list of tasks left to complete.
Invest In Your Work Space
One of the things I have found is that I definitely need a space to work from – this doesn’t have to be anything extensive but balancing the laptop on my lap while I chilled on the sofa didn’t help me get work done – and did nothing for my bones! I started to look into modern office furniture design ideas and come across loads that worked well for my house and the space I had available. Now I have a desk and comfortable office chair which not only helps to ensure I am sat comfortably, but also means I tend to be in the zone when sat there – really helpful for staying motivated!
Don’t Get Lonely
Although there are plenty of pros for working from home, anyone that has done it for a while will tell you that sometimes they miss some mindless office banter and just a bit of company throughout the work day. So, rather than allow this to become an issue for you – make sure that you stay in touch. These days Whatsapp and Zoom make it so easy to stay in touch with the people that you work with, so make sure you keep this up and much as possible.
It’s also worth making the effort to get outside during the workday if you can – I always try to take a 15 minute walk around the block when I have been working for a while, as I find that this helps me feel refreshed and set for another stint of working for a few hours, so it definitely helps with improving work productivity too!
