Over the past decade, the pressure has been building for me to go vegan. When I say ‘pressure’, note that every single one of the male +18 cousins on my dad’s side of the family steadily went from eating jerk chicken at Grandma’s every Sunday to being 100% plant-based. All of them. And my dad has four brothers and four sisters. Exactly! I feel like I’m in the wrong for failing to budge on my diet.

The same goes for so many of the people whose music I listen to on the regular. They might not be preaching about their veganism, but it’s like every other interview I discover that MC after MC is on this vegan flex. (And That’s without going through all the rasta Reggae artists).

After watching a show (I think on BBC Three) Hollie decided that she was going to actively make a difference in her diet. She decided that she was going to have a minimum of three meat-free days per day, as a way to show herself that she doesn’t always have to rely on meat to come up with meals that she actually enjoys. It broadened her palette and inspired her to make lots of adjustments. This lockdown made it a bit harder to stick to, but the intention is still there.

I don’t know if I can make the full transition just yet – like So Solid’s Megaman, Jme and all of my cousins – but the evidence is all nudging me towards that direction in the future. What would make me a lot more likely to head in that direction is if I had evidence that eating meat was having a negative impact on my body. I just came across something which can give me an answer.

HealthLabs has thousands of CLIA-certified labs across the US which provide examinations to find out how your diet is impacting your body. For instance, they are able to tell you whether you have allergies which are being flared up by eating animal-based foods. On the other end they have tests for vegans which tell you if you’re lacking in particular vitamins.

Based on the information they provide, HealthLabs able to give you insights into what is the best course of action for you and how to ensure that you’re able to treat your body well with the food you’re putting into it. It’s extremely cost-effective, considering the level of detail that they’re able to deduce from their examinations.

They can tell you if your body is actually more suited to a plant-based diet (of which there are plenty of benefits), if you have any significant vitamin or mineral deficiencies in your body, and so much more. It’s the kind of thing that could change your lifestyle forever once you find out the truth.
