Whether you are working in a marketing team for a business that has recently gone global or your small business is experiencing global success due to the internet, you need to remember that going global is a different market. While you may have had this success because of your product or service, but it doesn't mean that you can do the same things in different countries and expect it to translate. Therefore, if you have gone global and now need to market your company in another country, then you need to start by creating a plan for attracting customers.
Specify Countries
It's no good just making a plan to focus on Europe or Asia; they are too big in themselves; it is far more effective to focus on a country as a separate entity. Every country has its local laws; it's cultural norms; they have their forms of currency and payment and unique business practices. You will need to make sure that you conduct adequate local market research by looking into and understanding the market size. You need to be aware of the challenges that the customers face, the solutions that are currently in each country, and where your product will fit in. The companies who fail globally do so because they don't think about the basics of product positioning at the country level and overlook things like strong local competitors.
Adapt To The Country's Sales And Marketing Channels
A lot of companies believe that they can enter new markets just by following the same rules that brought them success in their home country. While brand consistency is essential, different markets favor different sales and marketing approaches. This is where you need the Account Based Marketing (ABM) approach to focus on each specific account. You will likely need to change your channels according to the behaviors of each market, and this can vary across countries within the same region.
Adapt The Product Offering
Companies often try to launch identical products in different markets, ignoring the fact that they're dealing with very different customers. It's advisable to start with a more basic version of your product to get people accustomed to it first. Similarly, if you're going into a more advanced market, then you might need to add more features than your product currently has. Remember that pricing will also vary, and while it's not always essential for companies to change their pricing structure for international markets, many companies find that they can grow much more quickly by making adjustments at the local level.
Let The Local Teams Lead The Way
Using the local teams is essential because they not only know the country you are working in, but they will also know your business. The biggest challenge that many companies face is communication, so as a marketer, you must put a system in place to help ensure that local views and opinions are noted and acted upon frequently. There's no point bringing your business into a new country the hard way.
