Amazon is one of the world’s largest marketplaces and putting your products on there is a great way to get your brand in front of the eyes of consumers. Amazon is the first place many shoppers search when they want to buy something, and according to Google, the site receives more searches than any other of the same type.
It seems that even when consumers find the product they want on another website, 9 out of 10 of them still check it out on Amazon. For sellers, this is great news and can help their own websites to become more used and their businesses more successful.
Amazon can be a tremendous additional sales channel and can help your business brand to become well-known much quicker. Although you still need to have a brilliant website of your own that is user-friendly and attracts consumers, selling on Amazon too can help direct your audience there.
It would be very difficult to attract as many viewers to your site as those that visit Amazon every hour. This makes Amazon a wonderful way for your brand to be seen by many consumers who would not perhaps otherwise be aware of it.
Compare Competitor Listings
Once you start selling products, you should look at the competition. You cannot just sit back and expect sales to happen. You need to see what your competitors are doing to attract buyers and to see exactly what you think they are getting right and wrong.
Read their customer reviews to see what feedback they are getting. This will also help you to understand what consumer’s preferences are which could help to enhance your own ideas. Are customers complaining about packaging or delivery dates, and if so, you could handle those things better? Insights into their customer reviews could show you what lead them to a particular product, and how they searched for it. This could be an advantage if you use an SEO agency for content on your own site, as the information about what keywords were most searched could be very useful to them. Finding good keywords can be tough and this can really help to narrow the field down.
See how often they update their content. Do they change it for the seasons or at times such as Christmas and Easter? Do they run special promotions at these times? Is their message regarding product benefits and uses clearer than yours and what is their Best Seller Rank?
Checking out there channels will allow you to see if they run out of stock of anything and this will give you the chance to pick up some of their customers if the product is something you sell too.
Make Sure Your Prices Are Right
Knowing you have the right price for your products is difficult enough, but take into account the rules that Amazon impose, and this becomes even harder. According to the Amazon general pricing rules, an item price and total price can’t be on sale at a lower price on any other sales channel. This is part of the agreement you sign with them at the start, and they will suspend your account if you do not stick to this rule.
Promotions, special offers, coupons, and discounts are all a great way to attract viewers, but be sure not to do this on another sales channel unless you are doing it on Amazon as well.
Optimise Your Listings
People who shop online will make a decision within seconds on whether they want to know more or go back to the search results. You really do have just a few seconds to hold their interest, and the best way to do this is to make things as easy as possible for them.
Start with the title. It needs to be very clear about what the product is so they can see straight away if it is what they are after. It should mention the brand name, its use, and its benefits. It needs to do all of this quickly and clearly, if you want them to look closer at buying it from you rather than someone else.
Use bullet points for key areas that customers will need answers to so that they do not have to spend ages scrolling through pages. Mention facts such as warranties, money back guarantees, delivery times, customer service details and payment methods that are acceptable. This ease of information will provide them with a much better user experience.
Images are important. They should show your product clearly without the viewer having to zoom in. You can use additional ones to show off different angles if you have the room, but do not overcrowd the space you have. A picture of the instructions and ingredients is a good idea too.
Your product descriptions matter a great deal. Remember that consumers want to be able to read them quickly, so keep the short but informative. Think of it from the customer’s point of view and make your product description clear and concise.
Encourage Reviews
It is no secret that reviews can be the answer to getting more sales. Many people who shop on Amazon will read the reviews before making a purchase. Amazon has banned the practice of giving discounted or free products to people who leave a review, but as most consumers search Amazon first, reviews can make the difference to your sales.
Amazon says they have made this new rule to give a more level playing field. It is to stop the big businesses that can afford to gives lots away having an advantage over the smaller ones that can’t.
You could confirm orders by email, and ask for feedback on the product and service they have received. If anyone puts a bad review, always be positive with your response as that helps to build trust in your brand.
Start Your Amazon Channel Now
Amazon is a very competitive marketplace, but if you put the effort into optimising and promoting your sales channel, you will be in a better position to compete with other vendors. Focus on your products and your customers with clear pages, great reviews and good prices as this will show you to be a dependable and reliable seller, and that will put you ahead of many competitors right away.
