Most of us spend the majority of our time sat down these days. Whether we’re sat at a desk working or sat in front of the TV, the convenience of technology has given us little reason to be active. But, the less active we are, the unhealthier we become. It isn’t just about weight gain; being inactive can cause all sorts of health problems. It’s important to move around for our blood circulation, but fortunately there are simple ways we can get the exercise we need on a daily basis.

Gardening

A bit of gardening can really take it out of you. It doesn’t matter if you’re mowing the lawn once a week or planting new bulbs ready for the Summer, you’ll be using a good selection of your muscles. Gardening builds your strength and can even have a good effect on your cardio. You may find that you ache the next day, but remember when it comes to exercise, aching is good but hurting is bad.

Join a Class

Have you taken a look at the local exercise classes? There’s usually something for everyone. From swimming to boxercise or Zumba, exercise classes are the ideal way of getting an all-round workout done. If you can’t find a class that suits you, why not run one? It’s fairly easy to get a football or rugby game organised once a week. Take a look at some football articles for ideas. With classes, you’re not only getting the exercise you need, you’re meeting new people and making new friends.

Walk Instead of Drive

If you think about it, there are probably a good few opportunities you have to walk instead of drive throughout the week. Why not consider walking or jogging to the local shop when you need to pick up essentials only? If your workplace is close to you, you could leave half an hour earlier and walk to work instead. When you have some free time on the weekends, take the family out and walk just for the sake of exercise and fresh air. You may be surprised at how refreshed you feel when you return. It’s also a great way of tiring out the kids!

Housework

You may be used to doing the housework, so putting the vacuum cleaner on isn’t going to be a big deal. It’s the things you don’t usually do that will take it out of you. How about putting a fresh lick of paint on the walls? Or you could finally clear out the items you don’t want from your wardrobe. When you want to go all out, go for a full Spring clean. You’ll sleep for days afterwards.

Stretch

Stretching can be very valuable when you have to be sat down for long periods of time. Much sure you take breaks and stretch when you can. Stretching can reduce your stress levels and help with aches and pains or muscle cramps. You could put a stretch routine together to do in your lunch time breaks or when you get home from work.
