If you have a blog you’ll know that the marketplace is very crowded. More of us than ever are taking to our keyboards and informing, venting, and generally sharing our opinions on our blogs. Whilst this is great because it encourages creativity and expression, it can make it difficult to succeed. For some a blog isn’t just a hobby or passion project, it's a very real way to make money. So how do you make your blog stand out amongst a sea of other sites?
Content
First of all, you need to make sure your blog is ready to take to the next level. Take a long hard look at your content. Look at it with a critical eye. See how it compares to other content on some of your favorite blogs. The chances are you might need to spend some time tweaking and sharpening the writing style. When there’s so much competition, great content makes a big difference. Take a look at the kinds of things you’re writing about too. Do you have a clear voice? People read blogs because they want unique and individual perspectives, so you need to make sure you have one. Make sure you have enough content too. You’ll need a folder on your laptop full of ideas and articles so that regular content can be updated. If you're keeping everything on your laptop make sure it’s updated somewhere else too. Otherwise, you may need a hard drive recovery expert if the data gets wiped. Secondly, take a look at the images you’re using on your blog. Are they of a high enough quality? Professional bloggers usually invest in top-of-the-range cameras so that their images stand out.
Marketing
Now you're ready to start shouting about your blog, choose the right way to do it. If you can, send out emails to your regular readers. These could be little newsletters or even alerts that a new article is up. Sometimes new content can be overlooked if it isn’t marketed correctly. You’ll also need to use social media. Social media is a great way to reach millions of people. Share links to your blog and images you’ve taken, try and generate a bigger following on social media. In turn, this will mean more traffic on your site.
Engage
Make sure you engage with the readers of your blog too. This is a good way to network, generate more views, and enter the blogging community. A good way to engage is to have a comments section. You can ask readers to vote on your articles too. Keep your content diverse and interesting, it doesn’t always have to be copy-heavy. Consider pictures and videos as well. Videos are especially good if you’re reviewing a product or service. Some visitors to your site would prefer to watch a short video that read lots of copy.
