If you spend most of your weekends trying to sort through the items in your attic, then you will know how frustrating this can be. You may feel as though you are up to your eyeballs in toys and unused items and that no matter what you do, you still end up with clutter all over your house. If this is the case, then it’s time for you to set up a sale so that you can get rid of everything you don’t need while also being given the chance to turn your trash into cash.
Choose a Platform
The first thing that you need to do is choose an online platform. Think about it, are you willing to ship your items? If you are happy to do this then Ebay is certainly your best option. If you would much rather connect with local buyers then it may be worth trying to use Facebook. Etsy is the best choice for handmade items too, so do keep that in mind. Of course, there is absolutely nothing wrong with selling your items in more than one place, but you do need to remember that when you do, you have to make sure that you track them both. After all, you don’t want to worry about selling the same item twice as you won’t be able to please both buyers. If you are selling online then you need to remember that most services will charge you a fee and you will also need to set your postage rate as well. If you don’t then you may find that you end up losing out on profit and this is the last thing that you want.
Sales-Worthy
Another thing that you have to do is make sure that your item is sales-worthy. Sometimes trash is just trash and there’s nothing that you can do about it. If you aren’t sure if you should be selling your item or not, then you need to try and look at things from a buyer’s perspective. Think about it, would you actually buy the same item from another seller? Probably not, if this is the case then make sure that you just get rid of it so that you are only left with valuable or sellable items.
Set the Price
Setting the price can be difficult, especially if an item is especially old or a possible antique. One way for you to get around this would be for you to do your research so that you can find out what other people are charging for the same item. You can then go from there and set a good price for your buyers. You do have to remember that potential buyers will often offer a much lower price, so always set it a bit higher than the lowest amount as this will help you to negotiate with your buyers without you losing out on too much. If you have recently come into a large sum of cash or items from a relative, then it may be worth applying for a grant of probate.
Prepare the Items
Now is the time for you to prepare your items so that they can be photographed and then sold. If you want to make sure that you get the best price for everything that you are selling, then you have to make sure that it’s in prime condition. Clothes need to be washed and pressed, any paint that is missing needs to be touched up and toys need to be cleaned and sanitised. Buyers will always be drawn more to a product that looks good on screen, so do keep that in mind when the time comes for you to get started.
Take Good Photos
If you want to get a good result out of your items when you sell them online, then you have to make sure that you take good photos. Use a simple backdrop wherever you can and also make sure that there is some great lighting too. This will really make your item stand out and you will also find that people see it in the same way that you do. When taking the photo, ensure that any clutter is cleared away and that you also do everything you can to show any damages. If you don’t then you may find that you end up getting the item returned and this is the last thing that you need.
Write Great Copy
A lot of buyers will usually process concise listings way better than listings that are full of endless text. When creating your listing, you have to include the price, the overall condition of the item and the way that it looks too. If your item is bruised and battered, then include this. Remember that not everyone out there is looking out for a perfect product, but you do need to be honest either way. If you have buyers coming to your home, then take the time to plan out exactly the route that they should take to find your home and point out any memorable landmarks too. Sometimes it’s best to meet the other person in a public place, and if this is the case then you might need to do a bit more arranging beforehand.
Be Professional
If you want to make a business out of selling items or if you believe that you have potential to make your idea into something special, then make sure that you are professional about it. Talk to your buyers in the same way that you would want to be spoken to and also work with them to make sure that they are completely satisfied as well. If you don’t then you may find that word spreads fast and that you lose out on valuable buyers as well.
So, selling items online doesn’t need to be difficult and if you follow the above tips, you will soon find that it is easier than ever before for you to turn it into a lucrative business.
