Life is busy and sometimes it can feel like things get on top of us – especially when we’re trying to juggle too much. With family, work and other commitments it can sometimes feel like there is no time to relax and that is no good for us long-term. Even though I have a busy family and work life, I always do my best to make sure that I have some downtime every few days – yes, it should probably be more but that doesn’t always work.
Scheduling Downtime
Rather than just taking sporadic downtime as and when it happens, I have learnt that scheduling it and considering it part of my commitments for that day important. If I don’t, then it is easy to get pushed to the next day and then the next day and it never happens. I’m well-aware that it is possible to burn out by doing too much and that if I’m not functionally well then I won’t be doing the best for me or my family and that is something I’m keen to avoid. Sometimes I just want to play connect 4 online and there's nothing wrong with that.
How I Use My Downtime
Everyone has to use their downtime the best way they see fit, however for me I have found that playing games online really helps. Not big shoot ‘em up games or anything that require lots of effort and brainpower –but quiet and simple games that I can play on my own and just chill. https://www.solitaire.org is the best website I have found for this, because it has some card games that really help me to unwind. What I like about the site is that I don’t have to log in or spend ages getting started; I just head to the website and I’m immediately greeted by a game of Solitaire dealt out and ready to go. There are other games I play on their too – Spider and FreeCell are probably my favourites.
Which Games I Turn To
The classics are always my go-to. When I first got a computer, I'm pretty sure there were only three choices of games: that mine one, pinball and solitaire. This was before I had the internet, so it was very limited choice. Pinball was great, but it's one of those that you completely zone out with. I enjoy something like solitaire. I didn't realise that there are actually quite a few different variations of it. For instance, the pyramid version requires you to clear the stack of cards off the pyramid. With the golf version, there are particular cards that you are able to remove each time. I've got a newfound appreciation for these games and often find myself escaping to these, rather than Twitter when I have a spare 10 minutes.
You know me – at any point I like to take my chances at earning a little extra. Games aren’t exempt from this – not even close. It doesn’t feel like effort when you’re having fun, so there’s a double benefit to it. If you’re on the hunt for the best money making game look no further than this sneaky discovery I recently came across.
Why It Is So Important
We talk a lot about self-care in the form of bubble baths and walks in the park, which are important but don’t work for everyone. For me, I like to relax with something that is going to help my brain tick over and playing card games like this online is the ideal solution. They’re all one player games so I can play whenever works for me and I don’t have to rely on anyone else being available.
Looking after ourselves is super important and something that we should probably all do more of. We’re probably all guilty of checking work emails late at night or replying to messages on our days off, which is fine but we also need to make time for us. Downtime is the best way to recharge our batteries and make sure that when we are tackling those important tasks we’re ready and raring to go. I would thoroughly recommend tasks when you don’t have to rely on anyone else, for me solitaire and other card games tick the boxes for me but if there is something else you enjoy and helps you wind down then just make sure you give yourself plenty of time each week to do this and really benefit from some proper relaxation time for you.
