Tips to promote your blog

Those of you following me from the beginning know I´ve started this blog to share my tips on how to make money with your own blog. But, you can´t jump to the end without passing for the logical thing first: promoting your blog and getting visitors. If your website has no traffic and value, no company wants to work with you. So, here are my tips on how to promote your website when you are a starting blogger.

Write valuable content

This is probably the most important thing. You can play as many tricks as you want to get visitors to your blog, if you don´t offer valuable content, they will leave directly. Set a target group for your blog, find out what keeps them awake at night and write articles about these topics that are interesting to read and share.

Promote your blog to everybody you know

Don´t be shy and promote your blog to everyone you know (and not know). To do so, I recommend getting business cards or flyers made. Make a design that represents your blog and don´t forget to mention the web address and contact details. Printables can be easily ordered online, for example at www.helloprint.co.uk. Hand out your business card to fellow bloggers at events, to people you meet and who might be interested in your blog, and also to companies that you might want to work with in the future.

Use keywords in your texts

For your articles to be found in search engines and generate traffic, you should find out what people are searching for in Google. Almost everyone uses a search engine if they are looking for information. So if your blog is shown at the top of a certain search, you can expect more traffic. A big advantage of using keywords and getting a good position on these words in search engines is that you get visitors who until recently didn´t know your website. Just don´t expect results overnight. You are not the only one who would like to get a good position, so it takes the necessary effort and patience.

Work together with other bloggers

Working together can generate new traffic to your website. There are various ways to cooperate with other bloggers. You can ask a fellow blogger to write an article with a link to your website. It may be scare to ask another blog to promote your blog, but if you choose a good scoring website, this can generate a lot of traffic. You can also offer to write a guest post on another website where you get to include a link to your website. This way you not only reach your target group, you are also raising brand awareness and positioning yourself as an expert. And last but not least, think about posting a comment on another blog with a link in your signature. Or even better, refer to one of the articles on your website for more information. Just remember to keep it relevant.

Don´t forget the power of social media

Nowadays almost everybody has one or more profiles on social media. If you are present here with your blog, you can attract more visitors. Post interesting updates where you link to your website. And if there are interesting enough, people might share your updates on their profile and you get to reach a whole new public. Provide a large network of followers and you have an extra way to attract visitors to your blog.
