You don’t have to become a professional athlete to make money out of the sports industry. Just by being a fan, you may be able to turn your love of sports into a small side hustle. Here are just a few ways to turn your sport passion into profit.
Get into sports gambling
Lots of people gamble on sports, whether it be football games or horseracing. By betting on something you’re passionate about such as the Champions League in Europe, you may be able to take a more educated and calculated risk. Many people have been able to make money from sports gambling. The key is to only ever bet what you can afford to lose – otherwise you could end up adopting an unhealthy addiction.
Sell sports memorabilia
Sports memorabilia can sell for a lot of money, especially if it is a rare item. It’s not uncommon to find signed autographs of athletes and boxing gloves selling for thousands. Buying and selling these items could allow you to make a profit, however you will need to develop a skill for valuing these items. The most profitable items are also not easy to find – whilst you may find some on the likes of eBay, you’re more likely to find them at auctions and flea markets. The latter option can be particularly profitable – many sellers at flea markets might not realise they’re flogging valuable memorabilia and so could undervalue it.
Create a sports blog/vlog
Starting a sports blog or vlog might also be a way of making money. You could discuss and argue topics, review sports games or offer sports news. Eventually, you’ll gain a fanbase of readers/viewers who may share your posts/videos if they are interesting. You can then choose to monetise your blog or vlog with ads – for every person that clicks on ad, you’ll make a little bit of money. You may also be able to do sponsored content or accept guest contributors as a way of making a little more money. Blogs can be easily set up using website builders like WordPress. The most popular medium for vlogs meanwhile is Youtube. If you’re vlogging you’ll want to make sure you invest in a good camera and microphone, as this quality will help you get views.
Become an online commentator
If you’ve ever dreamt of being a commentator, why not make your dreams come true by starting a podcast. Many people have rose to success this way by commentating games in an unusual and personal fashion. You may even be able to commentate games through Youtube – it could serve as a reaction video of sorts as well as a commentary. As with a blog or vlog, allowing ads will allow you monetise your commentaries.
