The figure that it’s a new year, so a good time for a new start: the perfect time to build a new and improved version of themselves. This is great. But the problem is that people rarely stick to their new found lifestyle. They dive right into the deep end, become overwhelmed and give up. If this sounds familiar, don’t despair. There are ways to ease yourself into a healthier lifestyle without taking on too much at once. Consider them baby steps. Here are a few dietary steps for you to consider.

Eat Plenty of Fruit and Veg

This sounds obvious, but it’s shocking how many people plan to eat healthily and then leave fruit and vegetables off their meal plan. They’ll be so busy focusing on a particular diet, cutting carbs, or reducing fat that they forget that we need to put good things into our bodies as well as stopping the consumption of bad things. So, make sure you get at least your five a day every day. To make things easier for yourself, you could do this in one fell swoop by making a smoothie or fresh juice first thing in the morning. It’s much simpler to drink five portions than to incorporate them into meals. This way, any greens that do end up on your plate are an added bonus! Remember that your five a day need to be five different items; you can’t just have the same type of fruit or vegetable five times over.

Don’t Forget Your Protein

A lot of healthy looking dishes don’t contain a whole lot of protein. So don’t forget to ensure you’re getting sufficient levels. Look up recipes that incorporate seitan, tofu, soy, pinto beans, black beans, or adzuki beans. You can also stock up on fail-safe protein-packed products from Sinister Labs. This company have specially formulated powders, spreads, bars, and even pancake mixes to ensure that you get all of the protein that you could possibly need.

Stay Hydrated

Chances are that you reach for plenty of drinks throughout the day. Squash, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, milkshakes… the list goes on. But instead of these sugar-filled options, why not grab a bottle of water instead? Water is pure and the best liquid to keep our bodies functioning properly. It also hydrates us more than any other drink. So, get a reusable bottle and carry it everywhere with you. Most places will be more than happy to refill it with tap water as and when you please. If you want something even purer, you can find plenty of filter bottles on the market that filter your water as you go. If you really want a bit of flavour, you can also get bottles with infusers. You simply pop some fruit in the middle section and the taste will flow out into the water as you drink it.

These steps may seem small. That’s because they are and they’re extremely simple to incorporate into your everyday life. But that means you have no excuse to avoid giving them a go. You’ll feel the benefits in no time!
