I have spent too much time trying to convince people that I know why they should create blogs of their own. As someone who has been writing online for over a decade, I’m always going to have a soft spot for this kind of stuff. I’m sure by now that everyone is aware that there are a lot of full-time bloggers. What some won’t be aware of is the fact that many of these people won’t even have Instagram accounts.

Those that make a killing as a blogger don’t always fit into the ‘influencer’ category. We may see a lot of these people with a large social media following – showing off glossy photography and polished YouTube videos – but there are so many niches and directions that don’t rely on this sort of content at all.

I’m married to a full-time blogger. I’m nearing double-digits with the amount of blogs that I personally run. I used to work as an outreach co-ordinator. I have a lot of knowledge and experience in this world.

No matter what direction you think you may take your blog, the reasons for getting involved all apply. There’s money in this eventually, but let’s not think about that just yet – here are all the reasons you should ensure that you have at least one blog of your own.

1. It Will Save You Money

First and foremost, having a blog will open you up for the chance to sample products and services free of charge. As a parent lifestyle blogger, I appreciate this when Christmas swings around.

2. It’s So Easy to Get Started

There’s an abundance of guides about how to do this online. Hosting companies are making an active effort to make it less technically daunting for newcomers. It’s really not that hard, and it’s ridiculously cheap.

3. It Opens Your Mind

Reading and creating blog content has inspired me to change in so many ways. It gave me direction as to the kind of life I want to live (not being employed by someone else) and how to get there.

4. It Takes a Weekend to Set It Up

These days I can probably make a logo, customise a theme and get a blog up and running in three hours. For the average web-savvy person, you’re going to need a maximum of just one weekend.

5. There’s Space for Everyone

I would say that some areas are a bit busy, but there’s enough room for everyone to make a blog and prosper at whatever they choose to focus on.

6. It Fits All Personality Types

Whether you’re out there or introverted, blogging gives you the chance to get involved in all sorts of experiences that you may never have thought you would have before.

7. It Forces You to Learn New Skills

Simply making a blog probably introduces you to about five new skills by the time your first post goes live. There’s plenty more to follow over the course of your first year.

8. It Introduces You to New Experiences

Please just look at my wife’s Instagram for examples.

9. Everyone Can Do It

Those that complain that it’s too technical or they have nothing to write about just need a couple of days to get up to scratch with the basics of what’s required.

10. It Provides a Monetisable Hobby

It’s great to have hobbies – anything to take you away from work/studying. It’s even better when that hobby could create cash at the same time, of course.

11. You Will Meet New People

It’s inevitable. And you never know where that can lead.

12. You Can Outsource the Hard Work

This may be a more advanced thing, but for those lacking time, it’s great to know that it doesn’t have to occupy all of your own time, if you don’t want it to.

13. You Can Document Anything

Whether it’s your journey of learning to drive, get into a new career or whatever else, it’s completely up to you what your blog focuses on.

14. You Can Pre-Prepare Most of the Work

In some businesses – especially ones where one person is responsible for everything – the idea of taking a holiday is horrifying. Blogging is a field where you really can schedule an awful lot of the work, if required.

15. It Introduces You to Many Different Business Models

The only reason I’m in so many pies if because blogging led me there. I wouldn’t know about domaining, affiliate marketing, the potential of online advertising, YouTube content and all of this other stuff without blogging first.

16. The Majority of the Work Can Be Done from Home

What’s better than a job that you don’t need to leave your bedroom for?

17. It Gives You Something to Reflect On

For those that use their blogs to document something, it’s great to be able to see your own growth through past work which is all contained on a platform that you’ve created.

18. You Can Be Whoever You Want to Be

You really don’t have to be personal with a blog at all. Be who you want to be to secure the bag.

19. It’s the Quintessential Lifestyle Business

Influencers are literally living their lives and getting paid for it. You can do the same, if your lifestyle – or the lifestyle you long for – is marketable.

20. It’s Therapeutic

Getting things off your mind and out in the world has a therapeutic effect. It’s great to have an outlet like this to offload feeling and ideas, especially one that may earn you cash in the process.

21. You Can Do It Alongside Other Part-Time Work

There are so many freelancers in the blogging world.

22. It Makes You More Accountable

Knowing that you have people waiting on content from you makes you a lot more accountable and conscious of your output. It gives you a little discipline, if that’s something you need in your life.

23. It Can Create Endless Opportunities

When I say endless, I really mean it. Once you get to a certain point, the dry patches really don’t last for long.

24. You Pick Your Schedule

The more advanced with this you get, there more deadlines you’ll get. But for the most part, blogging is something that you pick your schedule for. Another bonus on top of the fact you can do it from anywhere.

25. You Will Be Part of a Community

I know what it did to someone close to me, who didn’t realise there were so many people just like her. Whatever niche you think your blog fits into, there’s a community there waiting for you to engage with them.

26. It Forces You to be More Creative

As an online business person, I feel like I always need an abundance of ideas on the go. Blogging and the process of creating online content always keeps my mind flowing with different concepts, benefitting other things I have going on.

27. The Earning Potential is Wild

As I mentioned earlier, blogging can become a business for you. There’s really no upper limit of how much you can make as a blogger. I know so many people that have made it their full-time income and there’s a reason why I keep making new ones.

Is This for You?

Convinced that you need to get in on the blogging action? I host my blogs on Lyrical Host these days, and their website is filled with resources on how to get started with this world. There are people that make it by without websites, but the more platforms you have a presence on, the more opportunity you have to earn opportunities.
