It’s Meant to be Perfect

People love to glorify working for yourself and all that it entails. Yes, you have more freedom to work when you see fit. Yes, you now own your time. Yes, you have no pressure from above. But a major downside is the lack of real sick days. We properly take these for granted when we’re in regular full-time employment.

Now I’ve gone through a full year of this new way of working, I can see why I really need to take care of my mind and body if I really hope to keep my businesses running effectively at all times. I really can’t stand it when I’m behind on my schedule, and it’s even worse when illness is means I physically cannot do anything about it.

How Bad Can it Be?

Well you already know how bad it can be. There’s no predicting how long you may be wiped out by some sort of illness or end up in an accident that makes it difficult to work. Assuming you’re mainly involved in online business, it may not be quite as bad for you than if you had a very physical role, but you usually don’t feel like working properly when you’re ill.

There’s no point in dwelling on how bad things could get, so let’s just focus on putting things in place so you’re not completely thrown off track if you’re not able to do anything for your business for a short while.

How Can You Lessen the Risks?

Process documentation is a treat. Writing down the processes you undertake each and every day ensures that you have a reference point if you think you’ve become sloppy at something, and it can act as the blueprint to teach someone how to do the things you do.

It goes without saying but hiring people to work for you is the best way to avoid issues when you’re ill. We don’t all want or need that kind of help on a consistent basis, but being able to lean on someone else at a time like that goes a long way.

I feel more secure knowing that I’ve taught a few people how to run certain aspects of my Amazon online arbitrage business. If I’m not able to do take part, I have people that can source for me and my sister is an expert prepper, so that’s most of that sorted. I need most of the other businesses aren’t that time-sensitive but could definitely do with other people being able to step in when I need the help, and to help me step away from the hands-on work.
