A Few Words

I have to preface this with a disclosure that the following contains no statistics. I have no data to back any of this up. However, I don’t feel like I need any. A heavy dose of common sense will do. So let’s get right to it – as an online business owner you need to embrace email marketing.

CONSIDER OUTSOURCING

Marketing of any sort is always a complex topic that requires in-depth insight. You can learn this and pick tips and tricks up along the way as you go along. But if you want to have the best results possible from the get go, it’s a good idea to consider outsourcing your digital marketing with specialists like Boxclever Marketing. They’ll be able to implement the right changes to your marketing tactics to get the most from your investments!

Algorithms are Hurting Brands

If you’ve used social media for more than five years, you would have seen some crazy transformations of the most popular platforms. For those that rely on their customers being able to see their content to generate sales, they’ve felt the effects more than anyone. The algorithms have not been kind to brands since the top social media platforms started monetising through advertising.

As a result of these changes, it’s even harder for brands’ content to be seen by the public – even when the customers that are actually following them. Move with the times. Although you still absolutely need to maintain a presence on social media, you have to come to terms with the fact that a fraction of your following will see your output. Unlike emails.

It’s as Direct as it Gets

Every channel has its purpose. Each of yours should have a specific (or a few) objectives to them. For example, I have an ecommerce brand where I use influencer marketing to outsource lifestyle content, I use social media to engage followers in conversation, and email is where I attempt to generate conversions.

Email is just you and the customer. There’s no noise in between. It can be as personalised as much as you want. You can create many different emails and messages for different types of previous customers and prospective ones. You have a lot of power and it’s up to you to ensure that you make full use of it.

The Relationship Lasts So Much Longer

We’re absolutely overloaded with information, with content fighting for our attention at every turn. It’s very easy to forget one of the many brands that we may have interacted with on that day. On Twitter, you may have seen a funny post retweeted onto your timeline from a brand. You check out their profile and move on.

If you managed to capture that person’s email in that short interaction, it wouldn’t matter that the person is probably going to forget about you afterwards. You. can sneak in a message to their email with a discount code – promoting to check out the website. A little later, you can tell them about new products in your range. A few weeks later, you can prompt them to follow you on social media.

By this point, you’ve forced them to remember you, even if they’re yet to spend any money with you. They may then spread the word about you to someone else.

So What’s Your Plan?

Whether you’re selling a product or service, having access to the email addresses of your customers and prospective ones is so much more valuable than a follow on any platform. It may not feel as exciting or engaging as the other channels, but we’re here to make money; not just have a good time.

Don’t let GDPR scare you off. Don’t worry about how frequently you need to send emails. Just worry about actually using that channel.
