A whole new decade is on its way. It’s the perfect opportunity to switch things up, get more serious about things, and start new plans. You know why I have no faith in you? If you meant it, you’d start these things right now. Not in 2020, today. Stop reading. If you’re serious about whatever you want to achieve in 2020, get on it right now.

These are all the signs you’re not going to change anything when 2020 turns up:

  • You haven’t set goals
  • You haven’t made a plan
  • Your plan is to start planning in January
  • You haven’t addressed bad habits yet
  • You haven’t made sacrifices to change your lifestyle yet
  • Your Christmas spending has eaten into your project investing budget
  • You’re planning to “do more” without finding ways to make more time

I believe that if you want to start afresh with something, you have to believe it enough to drop other things you’re doing to make it happen straight away. The minute you start making excuses, you’re doomed to keep repeating the cycle to 2021; probably until 2030.

Our life stages dictate our ability to achieve particular things, and direct our aims and goals. There’s nothing wrong with not being where you aspire to be yet, so long as you’re making meaningful progression and you’re disciplined enough to commit to it. Constantly putting things off until tomorrow solves nothing.

I’ve decided that I’m going to make 2020 look better than every other year because I’ve actually been working on it since 2016. Once I knew I had a baby on the way, I had to make some serious changes to know that we’d be in the perfect situation by the time he started school. That meant creating a number of income streams (2 decent new ones a year), investments (creating and acquiring sellable assets) and life changes (leaving full-time work and leaving London), so I would be in the best position to work for myself in an environment that worked for us.

The journey may not have gone exactly the way I expected it to – there were setbacks, massive timeline errors and whatnot – but I got to my destination by sticking to it by keeping a tunnel vision on my end goal. And it goes on and on. The goals are even bigger and have become a lot more complex.

Ready to make a fresh start in 2020? Start now.
