The world of blogging can seem like a strange place. In reality, you think you set up a blog, and off you go. You’re now a blogger. Technically, that is the case. But, it doesn’t really work like that. Not if you want to get something out of your blog anyway. When it comes to making blogging work for you, you have to work for it. If you find that you’re blogging away but you’re not getting any visitors, making any money, or no interaction on your site, there will be a reason behind it. So, now you need to be able to figure out what that is and work on putting it right.
You’re Not Promoting Your Posts
Firstly one of the more obvious reasons for why things may not be working out for you could be down to your promotional plan. Or, the lack thereof. When you’re not promoting your blog or the blog posts that you’re writing, how are people meant to find you? If you don’t already use social media, you need to be using it. Then, you should aim to promote every post that you write on your channels so that readers can find you.
Your Blog Is Not Optimised
Another reason for why you may not be finding readers easily is because your blog is not optimised. Aside from discovering you on social media, readers can also find you via search engines. But, if your site is not optimised, it won’t show up in the listings. So, you need to read up on some SEO tips for small businesses and find out what you can do to improve that. With a bit of optimisation, you should find that readers can then discover you via search engines.
Your Design Is Confusing
Next, you might want to consider the physical setup of your blog and the effect that it is having on your performance. Perhaps you are getting visitors, but you’re just not keeping them? If you notice that your homepage gets a tonne more hits that your posts, you have a problem. When you’re making a blog, you need to make sure that it is easy to use, as well as aesthetically pleasing. If your readers can’t access your content, your results will never improve.
Your Content Isn’t Relevant
You may also find that it’s your content that is affecting your performance. If what you’re writing or sharing just isn’t relevant, you’re going to have a hard time engaging with your audience. Then, you can forget about growing your readership or making any money. So, you need to make sure your content is relevant to your target audience. Do your research and make sure that everything is unique.
You’re Not Using Analytics
Finally, you may also find that your issue with performance is because you’re not using measurement tools. Your analytics are there to help you. So use them. With analytics, you can find out what posts are popular, which will tell you what content your readers like, what links they click on, and how long they stay on site or where they leave you. When you’re not looking at this information, how can you make sure your blog meets your readers' needs?
