When you’re moving house, you have so many things to think about. It’s a complicated process – no matter how many times you’ve gone through the process – and it’s a must that you give yourself as long as possible to get everything completed. The longer you take certain tasks, the harder you’re making things for yourself.
These are the five things that you absolutely must do before your movers and packers arrive:
1. Choose a Cost Effective Service
Some people may assume that they’ll need a large moving van to fulfil the needs of the move, but you may not need something quite as big as that. If you’re looking for an affordable removal service, talking to specialists will allow you to figure out the most cost-effective way to carry out the move.
2. Create a Checklist
Put together a comprehensive list of all of the things you need to do in order to complete your move. That includes a timeline of when you need to do things like redirect your post, the changeover of all of your utilities, updating insurance policies and when to pack your things. By having a process and checklist in place, it will make you feel much more at ease that you know will know exactly what still needs to be done.
3. Declutter First
Before you think about putting all of your belongings into bags, it’s a must that you declutter them first. Get rid of all of the things that you no longer need, as it will make the actual move quicker and it may even cut the price down. Throw away the things you haven’t used in months or years. Sell the valuables that you no longer want. Cut down to the things that you actually want to bring with you. If you’re dealing with a large amount of junk or unwanted items, you might want to rent a dumpster, TX (or a similar service in your area) to help clear things out efficiently. This can save you a lot of time and ensure that only the items you truly want make it to your new home.
4. Start Early
It goes without saying but the sooner that you get started with at least thinking about your move, the more likely it will go successfully. There’s no use trying to put together a checklist the week before you go, because that’s the time when you should really be starting your packing and preparing the last-minute things. Get your plan ready from about 6 weeks before the move and you should find it much easier by the time all is complete.
5. Collect Cardboard Boxes
You’re going to need a lot of cardboard boxes for your move. Even if you think you have a fair few around, it’s nothing compared to the volume you’re going to need for this move. Rather than spending loads of money on cardboard boxes that you may or may not use, what you can do is find them for free. That’s right – there’s a chance that you won’t have to spend a penny on them.
There are two sure-fire ways to get ones suitable for moves. 1. Freecycle – put out a request for moving boxes (as there’s always bound to be someone that’s moved home recently) or go to your local supermarket’s customers services desk, and ask them for some. They have plenty which is bound for the recycling centre, and they’re more than happy to give them to customers for free.
