Keeping fit is essential for any guy wanting to look and feel good, but many men make common errors in their workout routines. Some of these can be detrimental to health and could cause an injury.
To make the most out of your exercise, make sure you don’t follow these common mistakes.
Buying the wrong gear
Whatever you do to keep fit, make sure you have the right gear for the job. When you go running, make sure you buy the correct training shoes, otherwise, you are going to end up with swollen feet and blisters. If cycling is your thing, head over to BikesReviewed.com and buy something worth riding. Second-hand equipment is fine until it breaks down, so you need something that will last and benefit your workout.
Overestimating abilities
Ever heard the saying ‘don't run before you can walk’? Good advice, as you are going to do your body more damage than good should you over exert the muscles in your body. Pace yourself in your workout. Put down those heavy weights until you can comfortably lift them, and start with something smaller. There is no shame in lifting five or ten-pound weights as you need to get your arms used to them before you upgrade to something else.
Forgetting a warm-up routine
Never begin a rigorous bout of exercise without warming up first. A few press ups or ten minutes of stretching exercises will flex your muscles and get oxygen circulating through your body. You are going to pull your muscles or cause a sprain when you don’t prepare your body, and that will derail your exercise plan for days.
Being inconsistent
Many men workout one week and then leave it the next. You aren’t going to feel the full benefits of exercise unless you plan on doing something on a regular basis. While you may not have the time to go to the gym every day, you could still buy your own set of weights and spend some time at home lifting them.
Bad lifestyle habits
It’s no good going for a run and then stopping off at a fast food joint on the way home. You need to get into the habit of a healthier lifestyle, and that means eating the right food and cutting down on alcohol and smoking.
When you pack your gym bag, always take bottles of water to keep you hydrated and healthy snacks such as fruit and cereal bars. You will feel hungry after a workout but having something nutritious to hand will help you avoid the temptation to eat something you shouldn’t.
Not having a training partner
While you can exercise alone, you are missing the benefits of a training partner. Not only can you motivate each other throughout your workout, but you can also be on hand when trouble arises, such as a fall or a sprain. Workout should also be fun, so having somebody with you to share the experience will help you feel less isolated. Find somebody who is keen about fitness as you, and work together in raising your fitness levels.
