Millennials seem to get a lot of bad press. Whether it be the fact that we like to eat a ton of Avocado (mostly of toast), that we really love meal prepping and using mason jars for everything; or the fact that the way we run our businesses are so different to generations before us.
The simple fact is that we have grown up with parents who were mostly very stressed, and unhappy with their careers. It has been ingrained into our minds from a young age that we should follow our dreams and spend our lives doing something we truly love. That’s why when millennials are in charge of running a business, there are a wealth of employee financial perks, and the whole work ethic is very different from older companies. So what kind of things can you expect from working with a young company?
PerkBox
As with many subscription services, PerkBox is something you can get delivered each month to unlock perks and benefits. Many HR departments are now implementing the scheme as it has proven to increase employee happiness. It involves signing employees up and in turn gaining nationwide benefits. It can include offers on stores, discounts and lots more.
One Year Paid Maternity AND Paternity leave
Many companies such as Netflix offer leave for new parents for a whole year. They believe in the value of those first months of a baby’s life, and realise that the father’s role is just as important as the mother.
Yay Days
These are days in which employees are encouraged to take off to enjoy outdoor activities and stay fit. This could be hiking, camping, swimming or whatever activity you love. It promotes employee well-being and increases morale.
Never Work On Your Birthday
Many modern companies will offer your birthday off as part of your contract, because nobody wants to work on their birthday!
Panda Fridays
World Wildlife Fund offers its employees every second Friday off. This non-profit company boosts employee morale by letting them spend extra time with their loved one on alternate weeks.
Volunteering
Some companies such as The Body Shop offer their employees a few days each year to spend volunteering at their desired charity or organisation. This is a great way for employees to partake in something they love and broaden their minds.
Snow Days
It’s not just school children who can benefit from a night of heavy snowfall. As adults, we can also enjoy having some time off when snowfall is heavy, and even receiving ski passes throughout the year.
Free Gym Membership
Some companies also offer their employees free membership to their nearest gym, encouraging a healthy lifestyle for their employees.
Yoga Classes
You could enjoy free yoga classes in the premises once a week if your employer hires a yoga teacher.
Beer O’Clock
On a Friday at 4pm, you may be pleasantly surprised to find that your colleagues all leave the office and head to the local pub. Drinks are on your employer as you celebrate the end of the working week.
