There are some clear attributes you need to make a success of yourself in life. You’ve got to be smart, good with money, and have the good judgement that the idea that you’re pursuing will pay off in the end. These are, of course, important, but they are not the only skills you need to have if you’re going to reach your potential. There are also several “soft” skills that you’ll need to have in your arsenal, which won’t necessarily be the key to your success, but without which success will be limited.
Finding Focus
Your success depends on your productivity. It doesn’t matter if you’re putting in twelve hour days five times a week; if you’re not using your working hours efficiently, then it’s mostly going to be a waste of time. As such, you’ll need to learn how to manage your time effectively, and also how you can find focus. This may involve cutting out distractions such as technology, social media, etc., or figuring out at what time of the day you work at your best. Find the best working rhythm for you, and you’ll be able to achieve your goals much more easily.
Being a Team Player
You might think of yourself as a solo entrepreneur, but this is not really the case. There are many people out there who are going to help you on your way to success. Whether you’re the boss or a worker, your achievements will be a result of a group effort, not just your own brilliant. As such, learning how to be a team player can be one of the best investments you can make in yourself. And it’s not overly complicated: just join a tag rugby or football team, make sure you’re committed, and in time you’ll see just what can be achieved when everyone pulls together. Remember, there’s no space for individual glory when you’re trying to better a company!
Ready to Learn
We spend the best part of the first two decades of our life learning, and then abruptly we stop. Once we’ve finished university, many of us begin our career and go wherever the wind takes us, not even thinking that what lead us there in the first place was our education. Moving forward, why not make a vow to be more open to learning new skills and ways of thinking? You can do this by taking a course, reading books by the people you admire, or just otherwise act like a sponge and absorbing everything you can from the other high fliers that you meet.
Self-Analysis
You’re not perfect. Everyone has shortcomings, areas where that need to improve. But most people don’t ever get to the ‘improvement’ stage, because they never figure out where their weaknesses are! If you don’t know how to conduct some self-analysis, then maybe it’s time to start. All it requires us some quiet time and honesty, and you might just find that you’ve figured out an area that could make all the difference to your chances of success.
