Do you find it difficult to stay focused when you work from home? With the recent shifts to remote working, there are thousands of people around the world who are struggling with the new dynamics. When you are working in the same place that you live, it can be a challenge to concentrate fully on your work, and not get distracted by things around you. Whether that’s your pets walking around, your noisy neighbors, or perhaps construction work conveniently being completed outside your home.
This can make the days feel longer, and make you feel more stressed. If you are struggling to concrentrate and need to make an urgent change, here are some top tips for helping you to concentrate better when working from home.
#1 Keep your workspace organized
A cluttered workspace can directly impact your mood, your motivation to work and it can be extremely distracting. Even if the items on your desk aren’t distracting you directly, they are going to impact your workday. If you have a clean, tidy and well-organized desk, you are more likely to start the workday feeling better, and therefore, improving your overall focus.
If you find you have a lot of clutter on your desk, clear out what you don’t need, and organize the items that are relevant to your workday. Remove any items that are distracting.
#2 Create a to-do list
A to-do list is a great way to stop your head spinning with different ideas. When you know you have a lot of things to get through in the day, procrastination can get in the way. Start each day by writing a list of everything that needs doing. This acts as a great visual aid and provides you with a focus for the day as you work your way through it one by one. This eliminates the time you have to think about what to do next, and helps you to concentrate better.
#3 Take regular breaks
It can often seem like a good idea to work as quickly as you can to get all of your work done. Unfortunately, this can quickly lead to exhaustion, burnout and poor concentration. Instead, you should endeavor to take regular breaks during your working day that will give your mind and body a rest. You should move away from your workspace, and if possible, spend time outside. This will help clear your head and give you a boost when you return to work.
If you feel like your stress is taking over your mind and you are finding it hard to relax during your breaks, then this may be the time for some medicinal help. You can go to your doctor to talk to them openly about anxiety medication, or you can opt for an alternative medicine route such as CBD or cannabis. Both of these have risen in popularity over the years with many people saying that these products have helped them relax, stay calm, and be focused as well as alert, depending on the strain.
You can take them in edible form or pack a bowl and smoke it. The choice is yours. Always remember to speak to a medical professional first so you know if this is a viable option for you and your stress levels.
#4 Create a motivating playlist
Some people find that listening to music while they work helps them to concentrate better. Take a look on YouTube for music that you would enjoy listening to during the day, and create a playlist. Instead of streaming it online and slowing down your computer (this will also make it harder to concentrate) you can use a youtube to mp3 converter so that you can listen to it offline.
