What is My Website Portfolio Report?

Between myself and my wife, we have a lot of different digital assets. Diversification is extremely important for us and we’re proving it by getting our hands in all kinds of pies. In order to keep track of how these assets are generating cashflow, it’s extremely helpful to keep a regular log of all of this information. Primarily, I’m talking about websites, but there are also other assets we have out there that generate income for us.

I used to make a monthly report for each and every site that we had, but when it hit 9, I decided that I couldn’t commit to making unique reports for each one individually on the first of each month anymore. After deciding on what matters, I managed to cut down to essential information, so they could be easily condensed into one place.

Much like my Amazon report, the portfolio report covers all of the essential information that I care about for each of our online entities. I say ‘entities’, because as an example, one may be a blog, which generates income through affiliate income and advertising revenue via the website, but also influencer activity on social media too. In that case, the Instagram account is an asset of its own accord.

The Portfolio Report does not include Amazon/eBay/Gumtree/non-branded print-on-demand sales or domain investing activity, as they don’t translate as easily into this format, but everything else is included.

What Assets are in the Website Portfolio?

I won’t get into specifics, just because it’s sensible not to give away niches to the world (especially when some of them are so small that I’m only one covering the space), but our entities include:

  • Blogs (both affiliate and advertising-focused)
  • Ecommerce brands (with their own
  • YouTube channels

It’s too easy to make a profitable blog right now, so we keep falling into the trap of making new ones – delaying our future plans beyond this – but let’s just say that it ends here for now. (I’m pretty certain a service-based site and at least one marketplace will join the portfolio next year though).

What Does the Empire Report Cover?

My old website reports used to go into detail on a lot the things we cared about from Google Analytics and Search Console, but it seems like overkill a lot of the time. Whenever I need to check up on those things, I will, but for right now an overview that covers the following is sufficient:

  • Key events (special campaigns, new acquisitions, milestones)
  • Unique users
  • Site authority
  • Sales
  • New posts (for blogs/YouTube and blog posts for ecommerce sites)
  • Revenue by channel (affiliate, advertising, product sales etc)
  • Social media following
  • Email subscribers
  • Expenditure
  • Action points

Why Do I Keep a Track of It?

I keep track of all of this so I can plan for the future. Every month I’ve got a brand new list of things that my wife and I need to improve upon so we can continue to make the portfolio more profitable, and so we can gradually do less and less work ourselves to keep it active.

We’ve purposefully invested time and money into assets that either require minimal upkeep or we actually enjoy doing. This means that all of the things that we don’t really want to do, we can outsource to someone else. All of the work that requires us to actually take part are fun or we’ll actually be able to learn from to take things further.

Should You Create an Portfolio Report?

Yes. First, create a portfolio of your own. It starts with just two sites and it can massively explode from there, once you realise how easy it is to make a profitable one. I’ve been juggling since I got into the online income generation world, so I’m quite used to this way of working, but I appreciate that a lot of people find it easier to just focus on one thing at a time.

Once you have at least two entities in operation and they are generating income, it’s about time that you logged this. I find it extremely helpful to do this in a monthly report, as that’s enough time to see progress/growth opportunities and act upon them.

If you would like any help in getting your own little website empire started, or even inspiration about what to focus your time on, I’ve got a separate site all about it.
