I’d say being a collector is a great entry point to being a reseller. By hunting down CDs that I’ve wanted to own forever, I’ve been able to appreciate how the value of media commodities changes over time, depending on how easy each item to come by. I understand what it’s like to find a rare piece for cheap, and how it feels to pay big for something I really want.
A few years ago, I decided I wanted to own all of the PlayStation games I used to play as a littl’n. I’d retained most of my collection, so it was just a case of making sure I filled in the gaps, and added some others that I’d always wanted. How fun was this going to be?
I had no idea that the game had changed, and those old games that got disregarded when the PS2 dropped had massively upped in value. The moment of clarity came when “Tombi”, which I’d had a demo for, would cost £50 second-hand. Even popular titles like “Crash Bandicoot” can set you back £20 second-hand these days. Madness.
I soon changed my mind on those aspirations, reminding myself that I haven’t played my PS3 for more than half an hour since 2010 (despite it being replaced with a PS4 in the years since). Gaming can’t fit into my week these days, but I can make time to make money off it.
As a reseller, I’ve had some luck with PlayStation 1 games. Every boot sale will have a couple of them, and there are lots of opportunities to profit from 50p-£1 pickups. eBay and Gumtree job lots, charity shops and other places are likely to have BOLO PS1 games that can fetch you profit of £10-£100 per item.

Now you’re all equipped, so go and collect that money. Most PlayStation 1 games will be worth picking up for £2 and under. Job lot them on eBay if you get a load of duds.
