How to Drop Off Amazon FBA Shipments at UPS

The simple UPS drop off. It’s what Amazon FBA is all about. It’s an amazingly simple process. For those just getting into it, it sounds complicated, and it feels like that at first. After your first time, it’s an absolute breeze. When compared to the alternative of physically dispatching each and every order yourself by heading down to the Post Office, it's a dream that such a convenient alternative exists.

Assuming you want your FBA experience to be as straightforward as possible, the courier responsible for taking your shipment from your home to an Amazon fulfilment centre will be UPS.

There are two main methods to arrange this:

Getting them to come to you
You taking the delivery to them

The former is simple, and will be covered another time. To summarise, you book a time for them to collect, and make sure you're around when they come to get it. Bear in mind: they don't do weekend.

The other is what i always do, and is ever so slightly different.

If you've sold anything on eBay before, you will probably be used to visiting either the Post Office or a local corner shop to get an order shipped. UPS use their Access Points just like myHermes and Collect+, and drop the delivery off, sign it in, someone will come and collect it for you. It's really that simple. If you haven't even done it with eBay before, I'll go through things for you now.

Here's how to do it, step by step.

Finish making the shipment on Amazon
Find your nearest UPS Access Point
Go to the UPS Access Point
Take that shipment to the Access Point
Enter your phone number or email to track the shipment
Play Mavado – “Box of Money”
Mission complete

Before I Learned All of This

I once spent two consecutive evenings shouting “F**k UPS” because I couldn't figure out why I couldn't sort this out from their website. All of this could have been avoided if someone supplied this content, for a UK audience, sooner.

On the third evening, when the iMac was due to get dashed out the window, the following relocations were made clear:

You don't need to make a UPS account
You don't need to create a shipment to do a drop off
You don't even have to schedule a collection
UPS reckon every new company that opens an account with them is shipping drugs/guns/small people
UPS reckon it's reasonable to ask for all of these different kind of documents (none of which they will return) just to send a little 4kg of toys
The UPS call centre is closed after 8pm
UPS is a good courier, really
It's really kind of UPS to give Amazon a discount on delivery rates
UPS don't love you
UPS won't ever love you
