FBA Wizard is the creation of Shaun Mitchell, a fella who was clever enough to automate the Amazon FBA online arbitrage sourcing process. Usually, this would involve a lot of tabs, copying and pasting to see whether an investment will result in any significant ROI. Having to do that for pages and pages of results can put some people off this business model altogether. FBA Wizard cuts all of that legwork out, allowing you to streamline your sourcing.
Note: I now use Tactical Arbitrage instead, but the following still stands.
How Does FBA Wizard Work?
The platform has a handful of different functions, but they all involve the same basic process of scraping a product selection page of ecommerce sites (Argos, eBay, Currys and over 150 more UK online retailers), and comparing it to Amazon’s current price. It means that rather than having to do this yourself, this automated software is able to make the comparisons, and inform you of instances where the Amazon price is significantly greater than the price on another website – great enough for you to profit, once fees are deducted.
The main Scan function is extremely powerful – displaying a wealth of information about every product, and the results you can expect from buying them. Things like the weight and the number of sellers are extremely important, and you get that info in a snapshot (within minutes) with FBA Wizard.
The easy-to-navigate interface allows you to then make informed decisions as to whether or not to invest in a product. Coupled with Chrome extensions like Keepa, it's all you need to boost your online arbing.
What Sourcing Method Does FBA Wizard Help For?
At the time of writing, there are seven main options to choose from, each of which presents a slightly different way of finding great deals online.
Scan – The fundamental method, and what most tend to stick with. Allows you to take a product selection page URL from any of the retailers in their database, and use a range of filters to identify products suit your needs. This could be something like a particular sales rank (eg 60,000), ROI (eg 60%), minimum profit required (eg £10) and it does all of the work for you.
Amazon-to-Amazon Flips – Selling on Amazon is all about timing. Things change constantly, including occasions when Amazon slash prices of its own products. This feature gives you the chance to grab things while they’re low, and throw them straight back on Amazon when the price increases. Be aware that you should buy from a separate account to your merchant account for these flips.
Merchant Flips – Another Amazon-to-Amazon flip variant that unearths instances where the Buy Box price of an Amazon-fulfilled product is much higher than the price that a merchant seller has it listed for. It’s more advanced and may involve flipping used goods, but throws up great deals that many would miss.
Reverse Search – Just like the regular ‘Scan’, but the other way around. You find a URL on Amazon, and FBA Wizard searches the web for better prices online, uncovering any flipping opportunities.
eBay Search – A method to search for online arbitrage opportunities bought on Amazon to sell on eBay.
Euro Search – UK Amazon FBA sellers are lucky, as they have the ability to reach customers across the rest of Europe too. This gives you the chance to search Amazon.co.uk for products that can be resold on the German, Italian, French or other regional Amazon sites instead.
Wholesale – Once a wholesaler supplies you with a product list, it then scans through (using the same functions as the basic ‘Scan’) to work out which products are most worth your while pursuing.
Having all of these at your disposal – plus the handy ‘Stack' – gives you the single most comprehensive online arbitrage sourcing software out there. This, and the fact they have an ever-expanding list of retailers, means that there is far less
What’s in it for You?
Efficiency. Online arbitrage for small margins is easy. There are deals everywhere. Clearance at Boots? Gimme the lot, and I’ll find someone to buy it from me for the original price. The sales rank might not be great, but it will all sell eventually. Finding the high-rewarding, quick-selling products is much harder. This is where the real profit is. And this is going to find them for you quickly.
Your average scan will take a few minutes to complete. Once it’s done, you will be sent an email with a spreadsheet of the results attached. Larger scans with thousands of products may take a few hours, but you can have them running in the background, or overnight, and come back to them later. While the automated sourcing ticks on, it gives you time to get on with other things in your business.
FBA Wizard is the choice of so many people because it is so effective, and it is constantly being added to. I’m not going to claim to be one of those Day 1 guys, but I’ve had it (and
What Extras Can You Get?
Beyond the software on the FBA Wizard website, there are a few extras that make sourcing so much easier. The FBA fee calculator is pretty straight-forward, and does exactly what you expect it too – showing you the potential profit per purchase.
The other one – Wizardbar – is an absolute essential. It uses Best Seller Rank data to estimate how many units a particular product sells per month. Obviously, you can work this out yourself using a spreadsheet (like mine) or use a calculator. But this does everything for you, instantly. Throw in there details about the Buy Box risk and the number of FBA sellers, and you has some info that you won't want to be without.
The Wizardbar also displays the inventory that every seller on a particular listing has. Why this is great is because it means you can plan ahead, and you don’t have to worry about undercutting other sellers on price. If there’s only one seller on a 10 units/month listing, and Wizardbar shows that they only have 3 of an item in stock, you can sit tight and wait for them to sell out, and expect to sell yours out too. If that seller has 999 in stock (usually Amazon), it’s a different story.
Another added benefit – a free one that many may overlook – is that there’s a free Wizard Academy filled with resources on how to make the most of your FBA Wizard subscription. Shaun has your back, and goes out of his way to show how to fully be as productive as possible with online arbitrage. Once you've gone through that material, you're going to be a lot more confident about making buying decisions, and building up your business.
What are the Limitations of FBA Wizard?
As great as it is, things can never be perfect. The main thing is that you are limited to retailers within their system. For those worried that it may lead to increased competition over the same products, it’s a fair criticism. You can’t analyse sites beyond what they already have in there. Saying this, there are over 150 sites there right now, and no other UK-centred online arbitrage software has more.
Something you will encounter with FBA Wizard is that sometimes the products won’t match up. It may be because the product is for a different quantity (eg a set of 3 on Amazon vs an single pack on Maplin). Other times, it just completely misses the mark. It’s automated software, so it will encounter issues like this, which is why there’s an EAN scanning setting, which means you only get results with matching barcodes. Again, not ideal, but it’s something you will learn to work your way around.
The final thing to watch out for is when great opportunities crop up, but the products are actually out of stock. It's another thing that you will come across, particularly if you stick to popular categories like Toys & Games. It's something you have to put up with, and you will soon learn to either get there quicker or shift to uncovered gems.
How Much Does FBA Wizard Cost?
FBA Wizard (along with
Let’s be real: no one wants to spend loads on a monthly subscription. If you are brand new to Amazon FBA, it’s probably better to get a feel for sourcing manually first. Once you’ve got into the swing on analysing Keepa graphs, identify opportunities and actually seeing returns from your Amazon shipments, take it up a notch with FBA Wizard. You will appreciate it more, because you’ll realise juswt how much more efficient it is for automating your sourcing, and the investment will seem worth it.
Summary
For the value you get out of it, FBA Wizard is a great tool. The speed will blow you away.
While FBA Wizard is by no means the first software of its kind, it’s the one that got me a lot of winning products. Compared to sourcing manually and with free tools like Keepa and various Chrome extensions, the value this provides is ridiculous. FBA Wizard is always being added to, and its creator is so responsive to bugs and requests for new features, which is why I originally chose it over OAXray. I no longer believe it's the best in the market, now Tactical Arbitrage has added so many UK sites to its scans, but it's certainly a big step up from the copy-and-paste method.
Set up is quick and easy. Once you’re in, it’s game on. If you ever decide it isn’t for you, you can jump out and cancel your subscription. The chances are that if you’ve got enough money to spend on your Amazon Seller Central subscription, you should make the investment in this too.
Just to Let You Know
I no longer use FBA Wizard, as I believe Tactical Arbitrage‘s scans are more accurate and its suite is more suited to my need.
