Why Would It Grow Too Quickly?

Unless you’ve experienced it yourself, it’s hard to fathom how quickly you can go from nothing to serious sales with Amazon. The site is buzzing with traffic at all times, and it means that even novice sellers can find themselves flooded with sales once they have something listed on there.

Whether it’s because you’re selling an in-demand product or because you’ve introduced a private label product that looks better than what’s already on there, things can turn ever so quickly with Amazon. It can quickly get to the point that you feel that it’s overwhelming and that you can’t do enough to keep up with demands of your business.

It might be that you haven’t got the time to source, or prep, or even spend enough money to keep going at the rate that the sales are. If you’ve found yourself in this position, here’s what you need to make sure you do.

Take a Step Back

When you’re too busy chasing, you can forget to strategise and plan for the future. Once you’ve identified that there’s a problem – and that your current resources are inadequate – you need to take the time to come up with solutions for it. Quickly.

Rather than continuing to chase, take a little time off (a couple of days will do). Within this time, you need to make sure that you do a few things that will make your life a lot easier going forward.

Simplify Your Processes

Efficiency is everything. Ask people that are a couple of steps ahead of you – from Facebook groups, forums, etc – and see what they might have done to make things easier. That goes for the big things, as well as the little ones. For example, buying labels instead of paper for box labels saves 30 seconds of time.

Once you’ve figured out how to make these things more time-efficient to do, write them down. Have the instructions there as a reference if you ever take time off and need a reminder of the best way to operate.

Get Tools That Speed Things Up

Get something for sourcing, something to filter down your choices, and something for repricing. That should really be your foundation, as it’s going to make things a lot quicker for you in the future.

The chances are that you’ve already got at least one of these, but now you can see that the money’s coming in (and you know how to keep it coming) this is how you ensure that you’re able to save yourself time on tasks that you’re overqualified to be doing.

Sort Out Your Work Space

Although Amazon FBA allows us to store our products at an Amazon fulfilment centre – effectively taking the inventory out of our hands from very early in the process – you do actually have to handle it at some stage. It’s vital that you have a space that accommodates the quantity of products that you’re dealing with. In the early days it grows very rapidly.

I’m not saying that you need your own warehouse just yet, but if you haven’t got the luxury of a spare room, garage or shed, then you may need to think of ways to make better use of your space to keep building on the beautiful thing you already have going on.

Hire People

Speaking of being overqualified for some tasks, it’s really a good idea to bring in people that are able to fill in the gap for you. So many people are opposed to this, because they wanted to make a small business that just sustains themselves. The truth is that it’s going to take a lot longer to get to your goal without help.

Be honest. Take the chance. Start small. Begin by finding someone that can source a certain amount of products per day. That way you can directly compare the potential income they’re bringing into the business, versus what you’re paying them. Once you’re over that initial hurdle, you’re going to get a lot more comfortable outsourcing more tasks, so you can focus on getting the business in better order.

I use People Per Hour for a lot of my Amazon tasks, and if you use this link you can get £30 to spend on work there.
