eBaying – whether you’re doing it to make a little extra from the things you have at home, or you’re buying items to resell them on the marketplace, I’ve yet to come across anyone that enjoys listing. We all know that we can’t make money from the site unless we get listings live, but it’s just so laborious doing the work.

How we get out of that mind set, I’m not sure. (I’ve been selling on there for years and that part never seems to get easier), but there’s no getting around it. The goal is to get as many high-quality listings live as possible in as short a time as possible.

Here are the seven tips I have to speed your listing process up:

1. Create templates

There are particular questions that come up often for particular product categories. There are particular descriptions that work well, and only need a couple of amendments before they go live. The more things like this that you can copy-and-paste, the quicker you’ll whip through your listings.

2. Dedicate time to eBay

Set out specific times when you’re going to crack on with some listings, and put a time limit on it. If you know that you need to get everything live by a particular time, you’ll work more efficiently at getting the task done.

3. Set targets

Linked to the last one, it really helps to have a particular number on how many listings you want to have live by a particular time. As time goes on, you’ll do things far quicker, and you’ll be able to increase that number. You’re unstoppable once you know your listings/hour rate.

4. Split up tasks

When I have a large number of things I need to put on eBay, I find it much easier to photograph everything at one time, write descriptions at another time, and then list at a completely different time. Whether you find it more efficient is up to you, but it’s worth trying out.

5. Create an enjoyable environment

Whether you enjoy listing items more when there are people are around, when there’s music on, when your favourite programme is on TV or whatever, make things fun for yourself. These days I’d struggle to list anything without a Memphis Rap mix on the go in the background, and I assume others soothe themselves in similar ways.

6. Minimise distractions

I’ve come to the realisation that distraction avoidance is unrealistic, and it’s best to just try to minimise the amount you encounter. Providing your environment is already on point, a common one for anyone working on a computer is to have loads of unnecessary tabs. Keep what you actually need – avoid those email, YouTube and Facebook for a while.

7. Create processes

All of the rest really comes down to this. If you have the right processes in place, you will get your listings up in efficient way. If your eBay listing tends to be done in a random fashion, you won’t be happy with the results. You won’t get enough up.
