Challenges are great ways to motivate you to take action and actually get things done. It’s all well and good talking about all of the things you say you’re going to do to earn money; you actually have to get down to work and make it happen.

By getting a friend (or multiple) involved, you can actually hold yourself to account. You’re going to have to compare how you’re both getting along. You may feel a slight pressure and desire to want to do better than them. Whatever the case may be, it’s more than likely going to benefit you having someone else engaging in the challenge with you.

Here’s how to get started with a simple earning challenge:

1. Set Rules

A start date is the absolute foundation of this. Once you know when you’re going to begin the action, you can do all of the necessary preparation to get yourself ready for what may be a lifestyle change. From there, there are so many more variations to consider.

Examples of rules may be to:

  • Only count ‘cashed out’ earnings; not ones sat in an online balance
  • Only include money from online endeavours; not cash from side
  • Set a goal, such as the first to make £100
  • Set a finish date, see how much you both make within the next 6 months
  • Include eBay sales towards earnings
  • Share Ideas

Not everyone is at the same skill and knowledge level, when it comes to ways to make money online. There are some that may have only ever tried surveys before, and weren’t even aware that gig-style freelance jobs were available.

Before you get started on your challenge, ensure that you’re both equipped to actually get going on the start date. It’s only fair. You don’t have to be equally matched, but you do both need to feel capable of earning money, otherwise the other just won’t be motivated to keep it up.

2. Arrange Check Ups

Make a habit of checking in with each other to see where you’ve got to, what kind of things you’re doing, and whether you’re finding the time to get on with work. You may do this daily, weekly or whatever works for you. It’s just helpful to have regular points that you look back at what you’ve done, celebrate your progress, and then crack on with more.

If you do this at regular intervals, it will be easier to trace whether you’re making progress and improving over time. For those that don’t like the pressure of comparing to someone else, comparing to yourself will probably feel more comfortable.

3. Rearrange Your Lifestyle

If you really want to earn this extra money, you’re going to have to make a few sacrifices along the way. It will probably mean cutting down on certain things, so that you can fit in time to graft with this challenge.

You may want to create a rough schedule and/or make a nice work station. Planning is extremely helpful and definitely most useful before you start. Expect to tweak it along the way, once you have a clearer idea of what activity you’re actually going to engage in.

4. Get Started

It’s that time. Hit your friend up and tell that that it’s happening. Pitch the benefits to them, demonstrate how easy it is and get to action.

Good luck!
